The training course "Bringing Stories to Light" was developed in order to address the needs of youth workers, facilitators and educators to be able to work with engaging and innovative methods in the intercultural education field. Since the European societies have faced increasing challenges due to unstable situation and crisis in the countries neighboring the EU, raising of nationalism and populism, and disbelief in democratic participation, it seemed more important than ever to find means to share real stories of ordinary people from varying cultures in an engaging way, to counter stereotyping and “othering”. Through training youth workers and young people to use new methodologies such as Digital Storytelling, we hoped to contribute to revert the negative narrative around diversity. The place to use those new tools would be while delivering intercultural orientations, Coloured Glasses (intercultural) workshops or while working with young migrants at schools. The specific objectives of the training course were as follows: • Increase and build youth workers‘ and young people’s competencies to comfortably work with digital storytelling methodology • Promote diversity, intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, common values of freedom, tolerance and respect of human rights through applying creative methods to share personal stories of intercultural encounters • Increase the competences of youth workers in Human Rights Education • Promote a more peaceful society by using the stories to break the stereotypes and prejudices people have about each other "Bringing Stories to Light" combined the training on Digital Storytelling with Human Rights Education sessions, so that the youth workers and youth leaders could enhance their competencies in those areas and are better prepared to promote diversity, intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, common values of freedom, tolerance and respect of human rights.
