Objectives

The "Libres Ensemble" Initiative was launched on 10 March 2016 by young Francophones and the Secretary General of La Francophonie in response to the growing phenomenon of violent radicalisation (political, ideological, social and religious) of young people and the multiplication of terrorist acts in the French-speaking world. This initiative called on young people to mobilize, express themselves, participate and commit themselves through concrete actions in the service of diversity, peace, freedom and living together. In this dynamic, we had developed a toolbox for people who wanted to promote the values of "Free Together": consisting of a charter of values and a reference framework of skills, it was also composed of a series of practical and pedagogical sheets, offering various and varied tools such as the "living library" - for which books are people and reading takes the form of a conversation - or the sheet "So what?". - simulation exercise based on a shock sentence to learn to respect the opinions and views of others. Also, this toolkit has been designed for young people who ideally have a first experience as a trainer, in order to prepare them to lead awareness-raising sessions on respect, solidarity, freedom, aimed at other young people, with the aim of encouraging their commitment to live together in diversity. The objectives of this project were varied: - To explore and discover the Free Together campaign; - Raise awareness of the 3 key values: Respect, Solidarity, Freedom; - Become familiar with the activities and pedagogical tools of Libres Ensemble; - To develop skills in conducting Non Formal Education activities; - To implement Free Together activities in specific local contexts; - To play the role of multipliers with other young people, other youth leaders and youth workers and to make them aware of Free Together. The links with the objectives of the Erasmus + programme and the values of the European Union seem quite obvious: the values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities, are at the heart of the content of this training. These values are common and pursue pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity and equality between women and men, using the methodology of Non-Formal Education, aimed at strengthening young people's qualifications and skills, as well as their active citizenship. The initial idea of providing a space for young people to express themselves on the values of Respect, Solidarity and Freedom may seem naïve or even candid, nevertheless the numerous and spontaneous reactions of young people throughout the world at the launch of the campaign (video messages posted on the platform) had demonstrated its usefulness, and the need for young people to express and develop a positive message that goes against the messages of hatred that are nowadays increasingly trivialized (when they are not politically used). This project therefore attempted to respond in part to this need, but also to provide young people with the tools and theoretical references to enable them to work themselves with other young people in their localities on the notions of stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination, etc. The issues at stake were therefore both to counter messages of radicalization and to enhance the positive discourse and actions produced by young people while helping them to learn.
