Objectives

The necessity for this project comes from the reality of the problems/challenges that are now very present in the European Union: violations of Human Rights. The training course "The Power of Human Rights" aims to build a universal culture of human rights through the sharing of knowledge, imparting of skills and moulding of attitudes directed to: a. the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms; b. the full development of the human personality and the sense of its dignity; c. the promotion of understanding, tolerance, gender equality and friendship among all nations, indigenous peoples’ and racial, national, ethnic, religious and linguistic groups; d. the enabling of all persons to participate effectively in a free and democratic society governed by a rule of law; e. the building and maintenance of peace; The training course will mobilize youth workers, and subsequently the European communities, and empowering them with the knowledge, attitudes, values and skills they need to exercise those rights, and to respect and defend the rights of others. After this TC, the youth workers will have the knowledge and be able to implement their own workshops, and other activities, about human rights with the youngsters in their organizations and communities. The project will take place on Tuesday 15th until Sunday 20th of October 2019, at the House Across Borders in Lommel, Belgium, right next to the biggest German War Grave Cemetery in Western Europe. House Across Borders is an organisation which aims to bring people together to think/work/be critical about War and Peace, Human Rights, Europe and Humanity. Two youth workers per country (24 participants), from different European Countries will meet in Lommel and debate Human Rights. This training is done through a learning process that will lead all participants in this process to act, individually, in their actions, and globally, playing their role in their European community. In addition to learning rights, the participants will also learn responsibilities and create aptitudes for action. The youth works will also be shown the best practices being used now in the human rights/ education field, by having the opportunity to witness examples of workshops, or other actions, that are putted in practice by different European organizations, and afterwards, take the knowledge and ideas back with them, and implement the best practices in their home organization/ community. The training course will develop the KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and VALUES of the participants on human rights with the broad goal of building a universal human rights culture. In other words, the youth works should be aware of the issues, concerned by the issues, and capable of standing up for human rights. Human rights education will move students from understanding human rights concepts to examining their experiences from a human rights perspective and incorporating these concepts into their personal values and decision-making processes. The main objective for the TC is to allow the youth workers to design their own workshop/activity in HR, and be able to: + Create and develop intercultural dialogue about Human Rights among the youth workers from different backgrounds; + Develop basic skills in human rights – for youth workers just starting their work in this field, and to improve the knowledge of youth workers already working in this area; + Develop, and create, tools to engage youngsters in human rights activities; + To critically analyse cases of human rights (violations, challenges, etc.); + Be introduced to and practice rights-based teaching approaches, which include participatory, interactive and experiential learning methods that respect human rights. What does the Human Rights Training Course consist of? - Education about Human Rights: To promote knowledge about what human rights are, what their meaning is, what values, principles and instruments support and protect them in a European level; - Education through Human Rights: Learning through inclusive, participatory and democratic methods that respect both the rights of educators and the rights of learners; - Education for Human Rights: Teach and learn in a way that allows the practice of human rights in daily life. Utilize and exercise your rights and respect and defend the rights of others.
