Objectives

Since 2008 until now we have successfully implemented eight youth exchange projects named under the abbreviation of YES, with the participation of 541 young people from 17 countries. The YES projects are unique because every one of them builds on the results of the previous one and furthermore develops themes and objectives that are related to the priorities of the respective European Year announced by the EU. For 2019 one of the five key themes is: Cultural Traditions and Heritage for Sustainable Europe: Smart Solutions for a Cohesive and Sustainable Future. The European Union continues to support the development of specialized skills and competences and the transfer of knowledge in the cultural traditions and heritage sector, includingly through the Erasmus + program. The protection of the environment, the economical and social development is a global problem, the overcoming of which is an important prerequisite for the transition to sustainable development and prosperity. Efforts of governments, local authorities, schools, universities, NGOs and businesses to form social, economical and environmental culture are incoherent and insufficiently coordinated. There is no model for sustainable development policies despite some positive results. The main goal of the project "YES - LESS IS MORE!" is to create a model and put into practice strategies to raise awareness of citizens on the matter of sustainable development, with the active participation of young people, by revealing their talent and potential for development and realization. A total of 48 young people take part in the project. They study or practice performing arts as a hobby (dancing, music and singing), photographers and video makers, journalists and 8 leaders from 8 countries (Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Portugal, Romania, Turkey). The main goal of the project will be achieved through the fulfillment of the following specific objectives: - To achieve intercultural acquaintance and dialogue, tolerance and understanding of differences, respect for the culture and traditions of the participating countries - To train the young participants to develop a plan in a team and to implement practically strategies for raising citizens' awareness on current issues related to sustainable development - To improve the participants' communication skills, creative and critical thinking, the ability to have a discussion, prioritizing and reaching consensus in defining campaign messages - Encourage the exchange of experience and giving an opportunity of every participant to express his / her opinion and suggest ideas in the campaign planning process - To improve and develop the participants' skills for successful performance on the Internet, in front of the media and the public, the work with the media, through the support of popular and well-known young musicians, choreographers, a director, a photographer and a journalist - To create conditions for the expression, development and realization of the young participants by applying creative skills, critical thinking and pragmatism in the preparation and running of the campaign - To increase the public awareness of the importance of addressing issues related to sustainable development by presenting the campaign messages in an attractive, memorable and inspiring way - to bring together the efforts of the partners for affirming and upgrading the results of the project - to promote the experience and the achievements of the project at national and international level Key competencies will on one hand be improved through the implementation of this project, such as the knowledge, skills, experience, attitudes and motivation of young participants for development and realization (team work, planning, creative and critical thinking, presentation on the Internet, media and publicity, popularity of important messages). On the other hand, the community understanding of the value and importance of sustainable development in the third dimension (ecology, economic growth and social development) and the concept of "Less is more" in all aspects of the public life and social relations will be enhanced. Campaign messages will reach a number of ten thousands through public events, online publications and online broadcasting of flashmob, eco- happening and concerts. In this way, we will highlight key European values and principles and key themes for Europe's future, such as: sustainable development; intercultural understanding, cultural heritage, art and creativity; perspectives for development and realization of young people. Moreover, the active engagement of young people in Sustainable Development activities is linked to the development of a strong civil society. Developing important social skills among young people and building a network of youth partnering communities from 8 different European countries is an added value as well as a foundation and a guarantee for the sustainability of the project results.
