This training course Radical Escape has been designed to raise awareness and youth workers’ understanding of the vulnerability and triggering factors leading to radicalization of young people and equip youth workers with engaging methodology to tackle the topic. The training course takes up an innovative concept of educational escape games. Escape games involve a team of people working together in order to fulfill challenging mental, logical, at times physical tasks. In an educational iteration of the method, an escape is not necessary, but unraveling the story is. Such games are engaging, thrilling and produce emotions, while also build empathy to the characters, develop critical thinking, increase team spirit and give space for fruitful debriefing process and follow-up knowledge transfer, which makes it productive while reaching out to youth at risk. Based on the blend of the two topics we have designed this training course that aims to enable youth workers to strengthen preventative measures against radicalication of young people through the use of educational concepts based on escape games. The project sets logical objectives: - To foster mutual understanding of the process of radicalization, reasons and preventative measures; - To discover the topic of escape game methodology as an educational approach in youth work; - To equip participants with tools for developing educational escape games; - To experiment with applying innovative methodology to the topic of radicalization and create 3 educational escape games on topics of Bullying, Media Manipulation and Marginalization/Social exclusion and test them with the local community; - To raise awareness of young people about the process of radicalization and its threats through inviting them to participate in educational escape rooms; - To empower youth workers/leaders to use escape games while working with hard to reach youth; - To create a scenario booklet on escape games on processes triggering radicalization. With this training we are seeking to both develop competences of youth workers/leaders as well as increase the capacity of organizations to work on the topic of radicalization using innovative educational methods. The proposed project relates to the priorities since it is equipping youth workers with competences and methods needed for transferring common fundamental values of society and preventing violent radicalisation of young people. Furthermore, we are seeking to develop a manual/booklet with 3 escape games scenario on topics of Bullying, Media Manipulation and Marginalization/Social exclusion, together with theoretical inputs on the topic of radicalization and game based learning. The dissemination process of the training course is also aimed to reach target groups of young people at risk. The training is also linked to quality improvements in youth work through developing innovative material and making it available to a wider public of youth workers/leaders. The training course satisfies the needs of youth workers/youth leaders to gain knowledge of the terms around radicalization, radicalization processes, understand protective and vulnerability factors, get access to innovative methodology and approaches in youth work, create new material that is possible to adapt and use while working with young people, as well as feel confident with applying such methodology. The topics of the escape rooms (bullying, media manipulation and social exclusion) have been chosen based on previous experience of working with the topics of youth radicalization and critical factors that are connected to the overall proces of radicalization.
