Objectives

Youth participation In the spring 2019, young people are raising attention throughout Europe with various activities. They are demonstrating against the EU Copyright Directive and against what they consider to be an inadequate climate protection policy. They are currently making a decisive difference, increasing the quality of the discussions and interfering when it comes to their environment and their future. It seems that established policymakers currently need new momentum and youthful vigour to really tackle the pressing issues. Europe's future Europe plays an important role in the reality of young people's lives, although they are often unaware of it. We therefore want to encourage young people to reflect on the European idea: What do European values mean for each individual? What does European identity mean? How can participation opportunities for young people be strengthened? We encourage young people in different ways by giving them impressions of Europe and by talking to experts. In this way the young people will acquire a European knowledge of understanding and they will strengthen their European (problem) awareness, which is based on a critical, multi-perspective confrontation with the demands and reality of the EU. Scenario Workshop In spring 2019, Emmanuel Macron sent an open letter to the citizens of Europe calling for a debate on the future of Europe. We want to take part and use the scenario method. The method allows us to look to the future on the basis of today's trends and to consider, through stories, what impact (youth) participation will have on our European coexistence in 2029. The scenario method provides young people with an instrument that enables them to engage in a structured but open learning process in which possible futures can be worked out and thought through. Although we looks into the future, the significance lies in how we can influence perception and attitudes in the present. Qualifications Key competences such as intercultural learning, social and civic engagement are strengthened in young people through a structured learning process. The young people are the acting subjects throughout the project. In this way they gain self-efficacy experiences and strengthen their self-confidence. The project is certified with a Youthpass in order to make the participants aware of their non-formal learning process and to document it. Sustainability/Participation The project is documented and passed on to the target groups in the countries by the results being used by the project partners for further activities. They also want to adapt and further develop the methods for their work with young people. In the long term, the political attitude of the young people will be underpinned by European ones. They learn to adopt a European perspective and are empowered and motivated to become involved in society. The young people also participate in the dissemination of the project results. Discussion of the future of the EU. For the schools/cities involved, the project means a further step towards Europeanisation and internationalisation, further methodological development and the strengthening of their strategic orientation. In addition, contemporary developments will be taken up and new capacities in terms of content and methodology will be built up. Overarching goals The project strengthens participation and the active European citizenship of young people with activating methods and serves to prevent exclusion, racism and xenophobia and to value diversity and variety in European societies and beyond, as expressed in the Paris Declaration of EU Education Ministers of March 2015.
