Objectives

The project “Nothing About Us Without Us: Working towards true inclusion and equity in youth-led civic organisations” will build more diverse, resilient youth-led civic organisations capable of improving civil society across Europe. Bringing together 40 young people from Germany, Romania, Ireland & the UK will allow participants to collaborate across differences, improve communication skills for intercultural dialogue & develop facilitation skills to increase their own groups’ capacities to promote the common values of freedom, tolerance & respect of human rights. Project Objectives 1. Explore how differences such as race, gender, class, culture, nationality, ethnicity & sexuality impact the capacity of both marginalised youth & youth-led civic organisations to engage actively in civil society 2. Cultivate participants’ abilities to effectively navigate these differences and build collaborative partnerships that foster intercultural dialogue & promote diversity 3. Practice key skills needed to facilitate youth groups to develop action plans to better include marginalised youth. The project enables youth already engaged with youth-led civic organisations, some of whom experience discrimination & marginalisation on the basis of their identity (ie- migration or refugee background, Roma heritage or LGBTQI*), to interact with other youth who might otherwise inherit a discriminatory attitude. They will learn how to collaborate effectively together, developing intercultural awareness & a respect for diversity. The project will model best practice in facilitation, supporting participants’ diversity & creating a learning environment to foster participants’ critical thinking. The project will equip participants with the facilitation skills to create collaborative action plans in their own organisations to support the inclusion of marginalised youth. This will multiply the impact beyond the participants & their sense of initiative will be encouraged through the implementation of the skills learned. The project will build the leadership of these marginalised youth, their peers & the communities they work with, to increase civic engagement. The project will: Improve key competences & skills to contribute more effectively to a cohesive society Increase participants’ employability, equipping them with essential skills for the workplace: effective communication, facilitation & management of diversity & difference. It will also provide project management experience, with participants involved in all stages of design & delivery Foster internationalisation, transnational cooperation & ongoing collaborations between participants’ organisations in Follow-Up events Enable best practice for including marginalised youth & facilitating diverse youth organisations to be contextualised by participants & disseminated to their regions.
