Within the project "Common Memory - Mutual rememberance for the future" the cooperation between the EU countries Germany and the Netherlands will be intensified. Especially young people will experience that the friendship between Germany and the Netherlands is nothing that can be taken for granted - nor is the European Union a matter of course. The project team wants to contribute an important brick to a lively commemorative culture. It will be looked at the commemorative culture in a way that includes the present and leads to the future. The German- Dutch friendship was not predicable after the annexation of the Netherlands by Nazi-Deutschland during World War II. Even so, not just a German - Dutch friendship has come reality, it has been achieved even more a cooperation between many European states. Even so, it is important that we care for the achievement and committ ourselves to a peaceful future. We need to avoid to fall back into old stereotypes and pattern. Corresponding to the ERASMUS targets the project will strenghten the solidarity between both nations and it will clarify that every single citizens is responsible for a peaceful interconnected EU. The project will deepen the understanding of the participants for each other and it will offer the chance to leave a just touristy way of thinking about each other. Within the preparation meeting (in national groups) and the bi-national meeting (will happen twice) the participants will increase their - intercultural competencies - their language knowledges - and their understanding that the EU and each state need active democrats if we want to keep peace. All this will be achieved due to the work along the topic "Common memory" but also as the students experience their dutch/german comrads in an informal way.
