Objectives

Aims We want to use the project "Make your own (Hi)story - Youth Perspectives on historical and future Europe" to impart to young people an emotional and cognitive knowledge of Europe based on their own life references and experiences. Young people should answer the question for themselves: What reason is there for me personally to stand up for Europe's unification? They should break down prejudices, get new learning opportunities, gather intercultural learning experiences, live common democratic values in Europe and develop a better understanding of European unification. The family stories about (working) migration and self-realisation serve as a basis for developing an understanding of Europe and creating a European consciousness. We particularly want to involve young people who are considered disadvantaged, because they are increasingly vulnerable to simple and populist responses that are based on a return to national isolation. The Fundament The focus is on the Europe-related needs of young people. It is about - to strengthen knowledge and understanding of Europe, of values and democracy, and of European policy challenges selected by young people, - to train abilities, skills and methods in order to strengthen the self-confidence of young people and to empower them for political discourse and social engagement, - positively influence/change attitudes towards political procedures, political decision-makers and in particular European policy as well as towards neighbouring countries (Germany, Ukraine and Poland) - as well as to show them appreciation and recognition by taking their concerns seriously and giving them the opportunity to engage in matters that concern them, to interfere. Context/Background Bringing the EU together with young people - this is the first goal of the EU Youth Goals, which are part of the EU Youth Strategy "Engage, Connect, Empower". Today, young people are being made insecure by current developments such as EU skepticism, fake news and increasing nationalism. Although opinion polls convey a broadly positive basic attitude towards European unification in Germany and Poland, young people often lack knowledge of the motives and procedures for European unification. They themselves also live in regions in which parties are becoming more and more popular, which are firmly opposed to European unification and ever closer cooperation at European level. The aim is to use a participatory method to introduce young people to the core of the European idea and integration and to make it clear to them the value of Europe in order to create a European to strengthen understanding / identity. We do not want to see Europe primarily as an economic project. We are primarily interested in participation and the strengthening of European democracy, values, interests and people. What holds Europe together? What are the challenges we face today? In addition, German-Polish-Ukrainian relations are to be developed on the level of civil society and thereby reduce asymmetries and prejudices. Young people should see themselves more as part of European unification in order to gain confidence and increase participation. Many young people believe that their voice is not be heard in the EU (Eurobarometer 90/2018) Despite this right guaranteed by the Treaties (including EU Treaty Art. 165) there are still major deficits here. So consolidating youth participation is the long-term strategic goal of the project partnership.
