The training course Train the trainers – It’s up to me 7 was intended to be the innovation in the training area in the Erasmus+ program and wider. The project has been running for 6 editions in a row, and we wanted to take it one step further by introducing two training activities with a structured mentoring process in between for 9 months. The training course takes a holistic approach in the development of the trainers according to the Trainers' competence model, which is part of the European training strategy. The training is also aligned with the pillars of the European Youth Strategy (Engage, Connect, and Empower) where the participants connect with their peers, are empowered to make change and are motivated to civically engage in their local communities after the training. It has been really challenging to implement this training course during the corona pandemic. The activities got moved 4 different times, and we had to switch the first activity to be an online one, which had an impact on the group not being able to meet until the second activity. This has impacted the learning process and the overall design on the course, nevertheless, the experience was truly meaningful for everyone involved. The main goal of this project was to develop the competences of the participants according the Trainers Competence Model and empower the participants to civically engage in their local communities and also organize learning mobilities in their own countries within Erasmus+ program. Those competences are listed as crucial for the trainers to have according to the European trainers competence model, which is part of the European training strategy. Therefore, we also shed light to the European training strategy and made people aware of the concept. Participants went through all the eight trainers competences and, by doing that, developed new or enhanced existing competences that they are going to use back in their home countries. The training course developed beginner trainers who are going to develop youth projects within Erasmus+ program and to impact the local communities where they live. This is an experience from the previous trainings where participants come out highly motivated, organize many local activities when they go back home in their countries. We could see a lot of local activities being organized during the course, several NGOs got started after the course, new projects are being applied and implemented, and that makes us really happy knowing that all the efforts and challenges in the last 3 years were worthwhile.
