Our project runs under the title „Be active together – have fun meeting others“. Thus, we want to give Swedish and German students the opportunity to get into a personal contact and thereby reduce prejudices and improve the mutual understanding. With the personal experience through the project, the stay with the host families and communal activities the young people can find answers for questions around the main focus: the personal encounter. The idea is that the participants will be able to find their own answers for questions like “What does it mean to meet somebody unknown?“; “Where do encounters take place? “; “Why are personal encounters important – for the students themselves, for society, for Europe?“ In order to be able to handle those rather abstract questions the participants create a game for groups and develop interviewing-methods as well as questionnaires according to the topic. Thus, the students learn how important and fruitful team work can be. Apart from that the young people take part in sportive tournaments, go canoeing and have plenty activities which enable them to also get to know each other through sports. Another focus will be on the topic of meeting people with disabilities. The students will discuss opportunities and chances of including people who are in some way handicapped. Other points of discussion will be the handling of refugees, human rights as well as problems concerning the climate. With practical work around these topics we want to strengthen the youths‘ the key abilites such as language skills, team work, tolerance and democratic values. The project aims at improving the young generations understanding and embracing of diversity. The participants will get the chance to test their tolerance, open-mindedness and ability to cooperate with others. Social and intercultural competences will be improved. Such encounters are highly motivating and help young people to become self-confident, active and tolerant citizens of the European Union. Also, the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle, self-awareness and the reflection of one‘s own actions will be focused on. The team of educators will be able to improve their educational skills in youth work. The integration of formal and non-formal education helps to motivate for the daily work with young people. The language skills will be improved which reciprocates with career chances. What is more, the partner organisations profit from cooperating on an EU basis and develop new methods and approaches which can be integrated in other projects, as well.
