Objectives

By implementing a culture of democracy – especially in the rural regions – the International Institute of Debate (IIDebate) together with Haus am Maiberg want to inspire young people to be active in the political life. Furthermore we want ot enable everyone to get their voice heard in a diplomatic, non-violent way and teach Tunisian & German young people about the current political situation in the two countries. By connecting the debates to a multicultural activity, a frame that the project provides, the participants would have an opportunity to deeply understand the possible multi-perspectives of an issue. Furthermore we, this approach aims at reducing the rate of violence and radicalisation within german and tunesian communities, by creating a virtual and physical platform for young people to share their concerns and find mutual solutions for the community issues. The aim is to empower young people to find democratic ways and creative solutions for the issues they see. One of the main interests of the project are to give greater attention to underrepresented voices in the Arab and German public discourse, particularly to those of the youth, women, and persons living in remote or marginalized areas, to train the future generation in structured debating and civic education and to create an international exchange on problem-solving. The opportunity to debate about the main issues that the involved youth is living and the possibility to make their voices heard through the training cycle we will provide is essential to a positive and forward-looking democratic transition process of Tunisian and German civil society. With this project IIDebate and Haus am Maiberg are eager to create an informed and open-minded next generation which is able to take an active part in society by spreading the message, the methods and the idea of an active citizenship through debating. The visiting of both countries during the Project enables participants to gain insight into their political and societal issues and challenges.. The goal will be to detetct similarities between both countries, and show that some topics, can only besolved throught international cooperation. Apart from the level of the nationstate, civil society plays a major role in this cooperation. The project wants to strengthen civicil society actors.
