Objectives

Summary: In the period 10/19 - 09/22, 300 young people from 7 countries created 5 blogs on self-chosen topics in 5 youth encounters. They formed their own opinions on their research results and topic content. In culturally mixed groups, the young people practiced diversity, respect and tolerance in dealing with one another and learned to think critically and in a differentiated manner. They grappled with intercultural differences and established relationships with their own identities and with European values. In project workshops and blogging, they expanded their research, media and intercultural communication skills and broadened their perspectives on shared values, social issues and intercultural diversity. As a result of the five youth encounters, a learning blog was created that provides instructions for the technical and methodical creation of blogs in various formats. They have also created a YouTube channel and posted another 126 blogs using the "tools" they have learned. Four youth groups networked sustainably in order to post their blogging activities throughout Europe even after the encounters. background Turning away from conventional media, today's young people form their opinions mainly on the Internet, in social media and via blogs. Internet bloggers enjoy a high level of trust. There, information and opinions are conveyed in a personal way that appeals to young people. In doing so, they can maintain their own culture, feel recognized and can contribute to some extent themselves. That is why creating your own blogs is highly attractive for young people. Social media play an important role in opinion-forming and communication. Nevertheless, many young people have little knowledge of the competent use of the range of digital media. There is often a lack of judgment and criticism regarding the dangers of social media and fake news. Elsewhere there is a lack of respect and dignity online. Little is known about data protection concerns and the use of other digital media. Blogging is technically and methodologically a very broad field, which cannot be opened up "on the fly" in its abundance and diversity. Blogging expresses a separate youth culture for young people. Blogging feels cool. Bloggers are role models, are respected and can contribute to diversity of opinion with their own contributions. With blogging, topics such as participation, diversity, opinion-forming and media competence can be worked on with a high level of motivation. Therefore, the young people wanted to take charge of the opinion-forming process that suits their own issues and culture. They wanted to use and learn “their” media and blogging. They set themselves the following goals: • Creation of 5 different internet blogs based on personal interests • Opinion formation on self-chosen topics including learning to think critically, differentiated and reflectively • Improving their competence in dealing with the internet, social media, blogging, smartphone and media tools as well as in evaluating data sources • Learning and practicing dealing with diversity and intercultural differences in an intercultural setting with 7 European nations and identifying common European values • Creation of a learning blog with at least 10 articles as a project summary, which provides instructions for the technical and methodical creation of various blog formats In addition, it was important that the young people were able to broaden their perspective from their own milieu in the personal encounters and in the intercultural and European settings. Creating blogs should stimulate their critical opinion-forming process, the discussion of important social issues and differentiated thinking. The encounters should also help to improve their intercultural and European skills. Overall, the project (additional goals) should - Facilitate direct personal contacts between middle-class and disadvantaged young people from different nations, where the chances of meeting across national borders are usually low - Building bridges between youth culture scenes in different countries and thus contributing to intercultural and European understanding and awareness-raising - Promote social, personal, intercultural and team skills and critical thinking - Strengthen the personality and self-confidence of the participating young people and empower them for their professional and private lives - experience common values such as freedom, tolerance and respect for human rights in practice.
