Objectives

With the project SocInc we did promote social inclusion of particularly vulnerable young refugees through by teaching non-formal education tools. In our daily work we see that especially young refugees with social and/ or mental difficulties and young refugees possibly on the move such a project is from big importance. Because further migration comes along with second asylum procedures or a life in irregular conditions which mainly leads to exclusion, exploitation, employment bans, fear of deportation. Thousands of young refugees are concerned by this topics and thus are not able to build up a stable life in the European context and to actively contribute to the host society. Still, only little is done on the topic to effectively provide a solid and legal basis for their social inclusion. Same is valid for the group of young refugees with special social and/ or mental difficulties that can’t be reached through formal education offers and neither through already existing NFE (non-formal education) activities for their special vulnerabilities. With SocInc we thus wanted to raise awareness on the needs of this target group and how to possibly tackle them. To do so, we worked with youth workers, intercultural mediators and educators, social workers and refugee community leaders. We dealt with NFE as a tool to promote social inclusion of the target group and equipped them with concrete tools to be used. At the same time, though our interactive approach, they should not only learn how to use the introduced tools, but as well to shape their own NFE interventions, thus to elaborate, to test and to consolidate tools that are really adapted to the respective refugee target group and its needs and to the context. This objective is linked with the objective to make accessible consolidated and specific tools as well to other youth workers beyond the group of participants. This should as well lead to a higher visibility of the project and its objectives and raise awareness on the need for structural answers, in particular as regards the situation of Youth on the move. On the one hand youth workers with different backgrounds and expertise had the opportunity to connect and exchange their skills and knowledge. This also included, that SocInc pursued the clear goal to promote skills of youth workers, to professionalize the sector and to raise awareness for the need of professional and well-trained figures in the youth sector. On the other hand we wanted to promote a European approach when it comes to the social inclusion of young refugees in the European context and how to ensure that.
