Inclusion - equityEU Citizenship, EU awareness and Democracy

Objectives

In 2008 the UN-Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities proclaimed inclusion as the equal participation of people with special needs in all areas of society as a human right. In addition to that, the EU proposed the Disability Strategy 2010-2020 stating eight fields of action in which equal participation of disabeld people in Europe need to be fostered. Since then many initiatives have been started to implement the inclusion of disabled in various fields of European socities, among those in Germany and Ukraine. The reality of Inclusion and the perception of people with special needs has differed from that of policy level within european and their neighbouring countries. Considering this background the aim of this youth exchange was to give information about concepts and rights of inclusion but also to reflect on the reality in both particiapting countries. The project aimed to provide an working space to reflect, discuss and for the participants to form a point of view on diversity and inclusion and in a wider sense on related values connected to democratic thinking, solidarity, tolerance and activ social engagement. This was menat to be fostered through non-formal learning methods in workshops, meetings and exchanges with people with disabilities, their families and those working and suporting persons with special needs. The objectives were the following: - to gain insights to the concept and realities of inclusion in Ukraine and Germany - discuss the benefits of diversity and inclusion - to explore processes that lead to social exclusion of disabled people - develop ideas on how to foster inclusion of people with disablities - encourage social engagement and actice citizienship - foster critical thinking and forming opinions on the basis of own experiences and gathered facts. - development of concepts for positive presentation of people with special needs in society and the public eye.
