Objectives

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that call for action by all countries and all kinds of actors to work towards a more sustainable global development have been widely recognized by governments, the private sector, civil society, and individuals who are working to tailor some of their activities around these goals. However, weaving them into the fabric of everyday life on the level of the individual is a time, knowledge and resource consuming endeavour. Adjusting current behaviours to sustainable practices requires a great deal of persistence and initiative. It is not only important that the harmful practices are abolished but also that they are replaced with a sustainable and innovative alternative. The demand for immediate action calls for the collaborative work of many social and institutional actors spread across the globe that can educate the youth and present them with the tools, knowledge and initiative to tackle pressing issues and recognize their responsibility in making a positive change in the world. In order for us to combat climate issues and maintain a planet with societies that are sustainable and inclusive in the future, we need to keep increasing the global awareness amongst people and enable them to develop and support initiatives that contributes to reaching the SDGs. Research shows that sustainable development education is effective in creating this awareness amongst young people (http://www.globaleducationmagazine.com/raising-awareness-global-education-youngpeople/). However, it is the partners' conviction that global responsibility youth education that creates awareness upon these issues does not suffice. Thus, Global Responsibility youth Education (GRyE) needs to also foster a sense of ownership and responsibility to address global issues as well as a sense of innovation and entrepreneurship that enables the youth to develop creative methods that can make a difference. Specifically, the partners find that there is a need for young people to gain awareness on how to create sustainable initiatives. Therefore, the partners behind this project aimed to raise awareness amongst young people of global challenges to sustainable development, as well as a sense of responsibility and ability to address these challenges and create societies that foster inclusive and healthy living conditions now and in the future. To meet the aim the partners set up the following objectives: - To introduce partners and participants to global responsibility education; - To strengthen the capacity of 10 youth organisations within provision of global responsibility education for young people; - To raise awareness amongst youth workers on global issues and means to address them; - To promote a sense of responsibility amongst youth workers in challenging human behaviour that is harming to the sustainability of the planet and local societies; - To foster a sense of innovation and entrepreneurship in creating new initiatives and methods within sustainable development.
