Objectives

Many community-led initiatives are blossoming all over Europe; working towards a more sustainable path of life; worried about the climate crisis and searching for more sustainable lifestyles, connecting the local with the global and aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) in a local and citizen driven mode of implementation. Often, these projects and initiatives are led by the youth, who are becoming stronger in existing organisations, but also in more loose structured movements, even beyond borders. As ecovillage networks, this is the time to connect to the youth and give them space in the ecovillages and organisations, who together form the Global Ecovillage Network Europe (GEN Europe). The increased activity level of the youth in climate activism is experienced all over Europe and equally in the Baltic countries. But there is a capacity gap and that is the background for this project. The overall objective is to enable the participants to create quality youth projects, including volunteering projects, for the partner organisations centered around the Baltic countries. This overall objective is broken down to three points: - STRENGTHEN THE NETWORK OF YOUNG PEOPLE interested in sustainability and ecovillage life in the Baltic countries, both in rural and urban areas; engaging young people in intercultural dialogue and cooperation; creating opportunities for contact making and finding/matching hosting and sending partner organisations for future projects located within the Baltic region. - CAPACITY BUILDING for the project partners in the areas of project and volunteer management, to motivate and enable the partner organisations to start successful international (volunteering) projects. - assist the project partners to FIND PARTNER ORGANISATIONS from other Baltic countries for their future projects. Including two partner countries, Ukraine and Russia, is relevant at this time of political tension, where it is crucial to show, that in youth work and in the sustainability movement we can overcome political divides and create bridges, where others build walls. That will be the need for the future and therefore we do not exclude, but welcome them in our midst.
