Objectives

A healthy and clean environment is essential not only for the individual well being but for the entire society as well as for our economy. Considering the threat posed by climate change, it is essential to understand the drivers of environmental degradation as well as how to build a transition towards a more just and sustainable future, both as individuals and as a society. The year 2017 was one of the three warmest on record and was 1.1 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial period. An analysis by the World Meteorological Organization shows that the five-year average global temperature from 2013 to 2017 was also the highest on record. The world continues to experience rising sea levels, extreme weather conditions and increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases. This calls for urgent and accelerated action by countries as they implement their commitments to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Considering the urgency of the situation, waiting for the political decisions is not enough and we believe that raising awareness among the population is going to create the proper context for bringing the needed changes. The primary aim of this course is to enhance youth worker's competencies for empowering young people to take active participation in the change towards a more sustainable society and learn practical methods for making small but effective changes that will contribute to climate change mitigation. We want to bring our contribution towards building a SUSTAINABLE LIVING between citizens and the planet and a future in which ECOLOGY is no longer an emergency but a way of life and where ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION no longer a series of concepts to be transmitted but the concrete daily practices. Environmental education is a process that allows individuals to understand and explore environmental issues, engage in problem-solving, and take action to improve the environment. As a result, individuals develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues and have the skills to make informed and responsible decisions. The components of environmental education are: • Awareness and sensitivity to the environment and environmental challenges; • Knowledge and understanding of the environment and environmental challenges; • Attitudes of concern for the environment and motivation to improve or maintain environmental quality; • Skills to identify and help resolve environmental challenges; • Active Participation in activities that lead to the resolution of environmental challenges; CLIMA wants to be a chance of exchanging experiences and best practices, analyzing and inspire youth workers on what Climate Change is all about and how to use the Sustainability Science for empowering individuals. With the TC “A Climate of Change” we will involve a total of 32 youth workers from 10 countries (3 for each country and 5 from Denmark). Venue: Copenhagen (Denmark), Dates: 10-17 October 2019 (7 activities days + 2 travel days). Objectives of the TC are: - To provide youth workers with knowledge, skills and tools in order to raise climate change awareness among young people; - To provide youth workers with knowledge, skills and tools in order to educate youngsters regarding different issues and aspects of Climate Change and Sustainable Consumption. - To stimulate youth workers sense of initiative aimed at raising awareness and educate youngsters regarding environmental sustainability and climate change issues and aspects; - To provide youth workers with knowledge and skills on Digital Storytelling that they can use for further raising awareness. - To provide youth workers with knowledge and skills to foster a process of co-creation between them and the direct youth target to create an educational animation short-movie. The final output of the TC will be the Toolkit “Climate of 2050°”. Furthermore, participants will also set a raising awareness Social Campaign with contents created during the mobility. CLIMA is based on specific objectives pursued by the Erasmus+ Programme in the field of youth through the KA1. Furthermore, it supports the EU Commission priority concerning “Energy union and climate” therefore contributing to the transition towards Carbon Neutrality by 2050.
