Objectives

Generation Z, the YouTube- or Selfie Generation... never had a generation had so many names and been the center of so many public debates for their trends, their way of communicating and, overall, their way of understanding life around them. Being a generation that has grown up in a time of challenges youngsters nowadays are determined to change the world for the better by making the most out of the opportunities given to them to create new, innovative and scalable solutions. However, they often lack the proper support tools to structure and develop their ideas, which start as mere thoughts towards small local actions and that can later on turn into viral global movements. It is here where the field of youth work and education can play a decisive role, as they provide the perfect environment for youngsters to become active citizens. Visual thinking can help youth workers and educators to support young people into shaping their own ideas and projects. This goes for any kind of projects or initiatives, but is specially applicable to ideas of young people, who often look for more engaging and attractive processes. The project “MARKERS” will tap on the potential that underlies in the mind of young people to improve the reality around them, focusing on the transformation of vague ideas into concrete project plans through the use of visual facilitation. Participants (youth workers/educators/youth leaders) will gather tools and knowledge that will help them support the development of ideas with/by young people in their daily work. AIM: To improve youth workers/youth leaders ability to elicit and support the ideation process of young people using visual facilitation tools and techniques, which result in more engaging and attractive project concepts. Objectives: -To introduce visual facilitation tools and techniques to youth workers/youth leaders as a way of engaging young people in project work; -To equip participants with a set of practical tools for visualization and visual facilitation of educational sessions and developing effective visual materials; -To practice visual facilitation techniques and visual thinking for idea generation for/with young people; -To empower participants to use visual tools when working with young people and developing activity/innovation ideas together with them; -To promote visual facilitation as an inclusive tool enabling youth workers to engage young people with fewer opportunities in idea development processes; -To develop a physical resource (i.e. a deck of cards) for youth workers to use when working with young people in the area of visual idea development and initiative design.
