Objectives

Agriculture and rural development are two priorities for the European Union cause they are closely related to food security, biodiversity and environment protection, landscape preservation, the occupation of the population residing outside the cities, conservation of values and practices of local traditions. In this context, a relevant topic that has been increasingly discussed and studied, both by the European Institutions and by civil society organizations, is that of the situation and the role of young people and women in the agricultural and rural sectors. According to the European Commission "the situation of women and young people in rural areas remains precarious, often leading to an emigration towards the cities of young and female active population" (Communication to Council and the European Parliament: closing the jobs gap, 2006). This precariousness, together with the limited labor supply of rural areas, especially involves young women who, when they are present, are a decisive factor for sustainable rural development and change. The projecte, through the program of activities of the training course, has the following goals: - To offer participants a wide range of non-formal educational tools to encourage the participation of young women in sustainable rural development. - To encourage the meeting between youth workers and experts on food sovereignty issues, specially regarding topics such as women and rural development in the fields of production, distribution, activism and academia. - To encourage confrontation and participatory learning to yputh workers about the rural reality of young people (particularly young women) and the opportunities it offers; - To encourage the creation of an international working group among youth workers and between partner organizations and the capacity to implement future educational projects.
