Objectives

With "L' Europe océanienne" we want to discover and share together, with others who live far away from us, our way of life, our history, our culture, our environment and our economy. As in other archipelagos, the culture of New Caledonia is marked by colonization, our culture is kanak which was enriched by other communities that settled in the nineteenth century, mainly European and Asian. But during the period 1984-1988 violent clashes between our communities. Peace agreements (the Matignon Agreement in 1988 and the Nouméa Accord in 1988) made it possible to resume the dialogue. Today New Caledonia has a large autonomy within the French Republic and Europe which should allow us to build a real common destiny. It is a long road, sometimes fraught with pitfalls, on which we go step by step each day. The culture of Canarian youngsters also results from a process of intercultural evolution but longer than ours, a process that lasted about 500 years. Our two archipelagos united by the ocean but with very different realities will lead us to discuss about what means to us the belonging to the European Union and cultural identities that make us citizens of a society without physical boundaries. On the other hand, the environment of our islands is exceptional, with the example of our reef and its lagoon classified, since 2008, in the world inheritance of UNESCO. It is up to us, young citizens, to bear the heavy responsibility of protecting this natural heritage from the dangers that threaten it: global warming, industrial pollution, individual pollution. This is why we also want to reflect and debate with Canarian youngsters on the challenges and solutions that our two archipelagos, unique, must find to ensure sustainable development, compatible with our well-being and prosperity. We, the youth of these two countries, want to be able to live together, with respect for each other and we want to learn to take advantage of our differences through cohabitation, cooperation and teamwork. We want to discover and know together the nature that surrounds us, sharing Kanak and Oceanian values with Canarian and European values. In this exchange, we want the ocean to be the link between the young people of Oceania and Atalantic, for ten days to advance together on the path of multiculturalism.
