The “Youth in Contact” project’s aim is to extend the applicability of Contact Improvisation to the organisations’ daily work with youth. The project partners identified the need to deepen the knowledge in Contact Improvisation (CI) and to develop all together ways how to apply this methodology in youth work. Contact Improvisation has the potential to enable the project partners to address sensitive issues present among the youth people that we work with, such as inclusion difficulties, taking physical contact from a non-judgemental point of view, learn to set limits and respect own needs, develop self-acceptance and improve the active listening and awareness towards others. These are concrete examples of issues and unanswered questions that youngsters from the partner organisations are facing. “Youth in Contact” intends to explore and promote the applicability of the Contact Improvisation methodology in youth organisations working with young people facing fewer opportunities. Taking into account the needs of the project partners, which are collected in a questionnaire, we define the following objectives of the project: 1. Introduce Contact Improvisation and its philosophy as an innovative methodology with broad potential from the artistic, pedagogical and social point of view, to youth workers and educators, providing tools that can be applied in their projects and daily work. 2. Explore Contact Improvisation as an inclusive dance, enabling participants to question gender stereotypes, physical or age differences, finding attunement with themselves and others through non-judgemental body expression. 3. Educate the holistic listening and awareness of oneself and others, emphasizing the learning process through a balance between body and mind. 4. Discover the physical, emotional and psychic benefits of human contact, dissociating it from the sexual perspective.
