Objectives

All across Europe, there are people and organizations doing great things to reduce and prevent racism. The project “Youth against Racism” is not about reinventing the wheel: we want to learn from achievements and challenges. We believe that the most effective way to make a difference in the incidence of racism is to encourage and coordinate these efforts. That is why we consider it important to create the exchange, which will help participants to stimulate their thinking and creativity, trust and local identity, enables young people to be more involved in the life of their community. Our workshops will become a tool that transforms participants’ monologues into a permanent dialogue on the topic of racism, social inclusion, actual news and problems of people with fewer opportunities. During this project, we will share good practice examples for others to learn from and build on, facilitate linkages and partnerships between our supporter organizations. Main aim of the project is to promote a clear understanding in the European youth community, especially among the participating organizations, of what racism is, and how it can be prevented and reduced. We will achieve this aim through the following objectives: - Create awareness of racism and about how it affects individuals and the broader community. - Identify, promote and build on good practice initiatives to prevent and reduce racism. - Empower young people and partner organizations to take action to prevent and reduce racism and to seek redress when it occurs. - Offer advice and assistance to supporters in implementing their anti-racism activities. - Develop materials to assist in the promotion of anti-racism messages. - Share good practice examples for others to learn from and build on. - Cultivate a respectful attitude among young people in communication with other races. - Help in the development of analytical and critical thinking skills of young people. By doing this, we hope to create a culture among young people able to identify racism and have the confidence and tools to act appropriately when it does occur. This will be achieved successfully by the use of different tools, activities and workshops, methods of non-formal education.
