Objectives

Young people are a huge force in Europe and they are very directly concerned by the challenges of managing natural resources, and in particular water. Young people are the first to be concerned about the need for a more sustainable future as they will have to live with the consequences of today's actions. Would it not therefore be essential and equitable for them to have a say in the matter today? Convinced that youth can be a driving force for change in our societies and that every citizen has the right to act and make their voice heard with regard to water, Solidarity Water Europe has been organising demonstrations since 1998 to mobilise young people around water. The EYEAP aims to achieve several objectives: 1/Raising awareness about sustainable water resources management in Europe and promoting active citizenship and participatory democracy among young people The EYPW wishes to encourage the involvement of young people in the water sector, both by increasing their awareness on water resource management issues and by promoting active citizenship. Each edition is marked by a theme; for 2019, the theme chosen is "the River basin: the backbone of regional development". In addition, it will explore how cooperation within a river basin area can be a driving force for development and how young people can actively participate in it. In line with the EU Youth Strategy, the EYPW will enable young people to acquire a better knowledge of the EU's policy regarding water resources management and the basin approach, whilst fostering their motivation to take action for change. The programme and method of the EYPW are strongly influenced by participatory democracy processes: debate sessions are organised and young people are responsible for organising an electoral process, aiming to elect a president and two vice-presidents, responsible for representing them and ensuring that their voices are heard after Parliament . In this respect, the EEJV is in line with the objectives of the ERASMUS programme, in that it enables young people to adopt a civic approach, while using water as a vehicle for cohesion. 2/ Make young people "actors of change" and empower them as key actors in tomorrow's policies. The EYPWF also aims to strengthen the capacities of young people so that they can take action and adopt an active citizenship approach. During the EYPWF, participants will work on the drafting of a "Collective Commitment", which will compile young people's recommendations on water resources management at the basin level as well as concrete action plans to be carried out in the field. This work will not only encourage the emergence of projects led by young people while allowing them to make their voices heard and to challenge their political decision-makers. In this way, and in line with the broad lines of the ERASMUS programme and Key Action 1, the EYPW encourages young people's initiative while improving their ability to launch and carry out projects that are useful to society and the general good. It also contributes to strengthen young people's participation in decision-making processes. 3/Foster solidarity between young people and intercultural dialogue through the emergence of a Youth mouvement for Water. As a pan-European and multicultural initiative, the EYPWF also wishes to convey and promote the values of the European Union and the Council of Europe while promoting the emergence of a Youth Movement for Water at the global level. It promotes international solidarity, not only between generations, but also between young people from different backgrounds, brought together by a common commitment. To this end, the EYPWF wishes to make water a vector of unity and cooperation between peoples; it aspires to forge strong links between young people, elected officials and experts, by promoting cooperation and the exchange of experiences; lasting friendships and a network are created, experiences and capacities are acquired and young people emerge motivated and federate. Today, many regional, national or basin parliaments have emerged, demonstrating the willingness of young people to lead the same type of initiative at the local level. The EYPWF thus contributes to the objectives of the Union and Key Action 1 on raising young people's awareness of intercultural dialogue. The EYPW brings together participants from the "Greater Europe", covering not only the European Union but also the Eastern Neighborhood countries.
