Objectives

In a post-Brexit Europe marked by the rise of populism and the questioning of the European project, two community centers in the suburbs of Stockholm and Seine-Saint-Denis are supporting two groups of young people in an intercultural exchange project tackling the issue of identities. In our European cities marked by a disintegration of social ties and the strengthening of ethnic based identity strategies, both our community centers are engaged in a joint project for the promotion of young people’s necessity to idendify themselves. At the heart of European national and international federal commitments, acsa and Hunzong community centers developed a unique partnership that puts young people at the center of an educational, participatory and citizen action. Both partners organizations bring in this action their experience, culture and values. Self Identification also addresses the needs of participants and their organizations such as: international experience, intercultural awareness, more active participation in the society, better understanding of EU values. Our main objective aims at MOBILIZING YOUNG PEOPLE TO FIGHT IDENTITY ASSIGNMENTS THROUGH CULTURAL ACTIVITIES TO EXPRESS THEIR NATIONAL AND EUROPEAN IDENTITY. Specific objectives for young people: 1 Using international experience to reach a common understanding of European values 2 Empower young people by fighting against identity assignments 3 Develop new social and interpersonal skills 4 Promoting active European citizenship of young people promoting cultural rights Each partner will bring the positive experience of their organisations in the project as they will involved the young people in each stage of the project using the the tools and methods of non-formal education they use in their work with other participants they will select. By creating a free exchange of ideas and cooperation between youngsters from both our countries we will enhance international understanding and friendship through educational, cultural and artistic activities involving the exchange of ideas and experiences directly among youngsters of different countries and diverse cultures. The guiding cultural activity of our project is to create films affirming young people’s identity by using supports (photos, videos, drawings and stories) inspired by their history and experiences (visits, conversations, meetings) collected during both weeks in Sweden and in France. We have the necessary experiences and competences to have great discussions that will allow us to come to the common understanding of basic European values and to share the results the participants and their community centers could use in their future work with youth for the democratic changes in our countries and to create new approaches for future projects in support of democracy and international cooperation within our international federation (ifs). “Self Identification” will ultimately strengthen our cooperation within our international federation in the fields of youth work and European citizenship. At the end of the exchange both partners will involve the participants into community envents and take part in various meetings aimed at promoting youth participation and exchange programs.
