Objectives

School is a time for youngsters to learn about science and math, but also about how to interact with other people. However, school is a traumatic experience for many youngsters who suffer from social isolation, loneliness, discrimination, bullying and violence in schools. The goal of this project is to make young people more tolerant, accepting and inclusive to other youngsters, as well as to combat violence and bullying among classmates. This goal will be achieved by pursuing the following objectives: 1. improve the understanding of the concept of human rights among young people Young people will learn about the history of the human rights movement. They will learn about Universal Declaration of Human Rights and key EU documents regarding human rights. They will better understand the key roles that different sectors play in safeguarding human rights - citizens, media, the government, schools and similar. They will especially focus on the rights to education. They will focus not only on the right to attend school but also to feel safe and welcome in schools. Participants will also learn about problems of marginalised and vulnerable youths in their communities - refugees and migrants, LGBTI, Roma, religious minorities and similar. 2. improve the ability of young people to interact with their peers, especially from different groups Participants will learn to recognise discrimination and abuse in schools. They will also learn about the consequences on the victims. They will critically analyse their behavior to see if they have treated other people inappropriately. They will develop empathy by putting themselves in the shoes of the victim. They will also learn how to respond when they see discrimination and violence in schools. 3. making their schools more inclusive Participants will critically analyse how inclusive their schools are. They will analyse problematic situations in their schools that might lead to social exclusion - e.g. when kids that do not attend religion class have nothing to do, or when parents withdraw their children from classes they find inappropriate, e.g. sexual education. They will also discuss how school prepares them for life in a multicultural European societies. They will discuss the shortcomings in their education and how they can correct it. They will create a plan to implement it in their schools. The needs this project addresses are the following: - more projects on combating social exclusion, discrimination, bullying and violence - promoting human rights for high-school children - more awareness of human rights among youth
