Adolescence is a time of significant developmental changes, during which teens exhibit a limited capacity for self-regulation and an increased risk of susceptibility to peer pressure and experimentation. After a group from our organisation took part in an E+ program along with participants from HU, RO, BG, LT and PT, they came to realise that the vast majority of participants spent an alarming amount of time on social media and admitted that the time spent in front of a computer is purely for leisure. Growing up in a digitalised era is very beneficial but also brings significant risks if the youth is not educated and does not responsibly use digital devices. Recent studies showed that Facebook gathers more than 5.5 million users for more than 1 hour daily in more than one partner country. Therefore, by involving young people from HU, RO, BG, LT and PT, we wanted to address the issue of irresponsible time spent on the Internet and digital devices and instead bring in front the fact that this time can be spent on more productive ways, such as learning something new as coding. The methods used in the youth exchange were non-formal and participatory such as teamwork, games, simulations, presentations, storytelling, learning by doing and guiding young participants to explore and work together on how they can learn to code and use the time spent in front of a screen productively. The objectives of the project achieved are the following: - Improved responsibility and productivity regarding the time spent on digital devices and developed new digital media skills for 50 participants from HU, RO, BG, LT and PT; - Increased career perspectives for our participants, and created a context where they can develop their skills to learn new things; - Increased the partner's capabilities in implementing E+ projects to help young people address their contemporary issues. Through this project, we planned to contribute to the achievement of E+ objectives and EU priorities. In the field of youth by empowering young people to be critical and responsible users and producers of information, ensure youth’s careers and all things involved with educating and training young people regarding media and digital literacy skills. Our project fostered employability, as well as socio-educational and personal development, participation in civic and social life; in a fast-changing world, critical thinking and creativity, and forward-looking skills in fields that are strategic for smart economic and social development.
