Objectives

"Giraffes go to theatre" was an international project developing competencies of 24 youth workers coming from 8 different countries (Hungary, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armania, Poland, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Portugal) to practice empathy and embrace non-violent communication(NVC) – observing and acknowledging own and others’ needs, recognising and peacefully expressing emotions, building up meaningful and comfortable connections with other young people, and coworkers. The aim of the project was to empower youth workers and leaders, facilitators, project coordinators, in dealing with the conflict, tension or misunderstandings in a mindful and peaceful way in their work environment, aiming common good, growth and harmonic co-being, and on the other hand-gain them competencies of involving NVC, Mindfulness and Drama (Applied Theatre) work in the non-formal education activities with young people. With the "Giraffes go to theatre", we aimed to ask the question: What are the resources of a youth worker to live peacefully and build a peaceful community? The training programme aimed to have an impact in the following areas: *Develop the conceptual understanding of youth workers and leaders in NVC, Drama and Mindfulness work, as most actual concepts in contemporary peace education; *Improve an empathic attitude of the participants by building up a safe atmosphere for, and together with the group to feel ready to support each other, share their challenges, connect to their emotions and needs, go through experienced frustrations, and see them as a resource for development; *To increase educational competencies in designing, delivering and evaluating peace education programmes for young people, and through this way to become pro-active citizens in the society. The objectives of the project were tightly linked to the objectives of Erasmus+ Programme and its Key Action 1, including projects for learning mobility of youth workers: *Supporting the professional development of those who work with youth, with a view to improving the quality of their communication with participants as well as facilitation and management of carried out activities; *Providing youth organisations and youth workers with opportunities for cooperation and peer support, fostering quality improvements in European youth work; *Promoting inclusion of young people in a disadvantaged situation, facing difficulties to participate in a mobility activity by enhancing the capacity of those who support them and facilitate the activity to manage the challenging situations; *Promoting diversity, and development of language competencies to support cooperation in a linguistically diverse world.
