Objectives

CONTEXT/BACKGROUND The project was implemented by the students of a Hungarian secondary school, Közgazdasági Politechnikum together with four partner schools from Spain, Greece, Lithuania and Italy. Its youth exchange programs were planned to be implemented in Hungary and in Spain. Our goal was to raise awareness about gender equality, to empower and make youth actively promote equal rights and opportunities of both women and men in their community, using the tools of peer to peer teaching/learning and other non-formal methods. Young people can play an important role in promoting gender equality and changing the attitudes of their mates. In the project, young people learned about gender issues, carried out research and campaign for gender equality among their peers. OBJECTIVES: • to promote gender equality and fight against discrimination with peer advocacy and tools adequate to reach youth, like social and social media campaigns, • to enhance knowledge, skills, values and attitudes of youth as informed and active citizens, • to develop critical thinking to challenge gender related prejudices and discrimination and contribute to building societies that support gender equality, • to illustrate how equality can be achieved by social changes and promote a change about gender issues in schools, at work and in societies, • to improve participants’ communication, foreign language and digital competences, • to promote active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, social inclusion and solidarity, common values of tolerance and respect of human rights, through the empowerment of young participants, These objectives were reached by creating a supportive environment among youth. Young participants first explored the current situation in their own countries, in Europe and in the world. Then they started campaigns in their school and on the Internet, in social media.
