"The shape of inclusion" was a youth cultural exchange project aimed at improving the condition of problematic young people through non-formal education methods based on visual arts and reflecting if these same methods can also be useful for a process of integration of migrants. Many young Europeans have to face integration problems related to existential, social, geographical, behavioral hardships (problematic family backgrounds, bullying, coming from rural areas, lack of work) often growing in destructive personal and social behaviors, individual resentment, frustration, disorientation , a lifestyle with enormous negative consequences on oneself, on other people and on society as a whole. In both of our cases, specifically, this situation is given by the geographical position of our towns of origin, unfortunately far from cultural centers and active for young people, and the high unemployment rate. If the social stigma is directed on a purely repressive approach to these problems, our project, on the other hand, has envisaged an innovative approach by proposing to overcome that repressive approach by creating a "safe zone" in which these young people feel free to express themselves, their feelings and their personality. The choice of figurative arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, etc.), as vehicles of social action, is justified in the light of the ability of these arts to allow an immediate and profound expression of one's thoughts and emotions such as to satisfy the needs of these particularly complex target groups.
