Objectives

The "I Graft Ergo sum" project, as already stated in the project submission phase, aimed, in line with the Erasmus + programme and the specific action, to encourage intercultural dialogue and media literacy. It also represented an opportunity for those living in disadvantaged rural or urban areas where there are very few opportunities for learning (especially non-formal learning) and the supply of jobs is very low. In these contexts, the most disadvantaged group are young people who are therefore at high risk of social exclusion. The exchange fully achieved the objectives set out in the initial proposal, involving the young participants in activities of personal and professional growth. In detail, it was aimed at: 1) PROMOTE YOUNG PEOPLE'S PERSONAL AND SOCIAL EDUCATION, STRENGTHENING THEIR FEELING OF BEING EUROPEAN CITIZENS: The residential experience of the exchange in itself represented a challenge for the participants in which they had to share spaces and resources with young people from all over Europe, collaborate together in numerous non-formal educational activities, discuss socially relevant topics, socialise and get to know each other better. Through the activities they deepened their knowledge of other cultures, perceiving themselves as European citizens. 2) INVOLVING YOUNG PEOPLE MARGINALISED WITH LESS OPPORTUNITIES: Most of the activities involved young people who live in peripheral areas and who today face situations linked to lack of opportunities, unemployment, social fragility and marginalisation. Among the young people, two foreign girls from Caracas Venezuela and Bolivia were also involved, who had to face difficulties of social inclusion in their life paths. In addition, special attention was given to some young people who are unemployed and, at the moment, do not study or work (NEET). 3) SUPPORTING INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE AND THE VALUES OF TOLERANCE AND SOCIAL COHESION IN EUROPE: Participants had the opportunity during all the exchange days to reflect and deal with issues concerning intercultural dialogue, tolerance and social cohesion. They did so through role-playing, brainstorming, workshops and above all through photography and digital graphics. They created a collection of pictures taken and graphically implemented by the participants, which was displayed in an exhibition open to the public. The images were accompanied by phrases with the aim of conveying positive messages of tolerance and respect for the environment in the different territories and on the web. 4) RAISING AWARENESS OF YOUNG PEOPLE ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES, PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND COMBATING POLLUTION: The whole exchange was designed to promote sustainable development and to allow for reflection and discussion on environmental issues. Many of the young people live in territories affected by major environmental problems, in particular a young man from Taranto was involved, who told the experience of his city and the environmental damage and deaths caused by ILVA, this was a cue for all participants to address the environmental situation of their territories. 5) ENHANCING THE ARTISTIC AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS OF THE YOUNG PARTICIPANTS THROUGH "PEER LEARNING" ACTIONS BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS: the young people had to follow a full agenda of activities related to the artistic field with the aim of increasing their skills and professional abilities through non-formal learning and sharing previous knowledge. The youngsters acquired expertise in the field of digital graphics and photography that could be spent in the world of work, thus increasing their job possibilities and enabling us to achieve one of the main objectives of the project. The project stemmed from a context analysis that revealed in the countries involved an imminent need to address issues related to environmental pollution, with the aim of raising awareness among the young participants on the issue but also to have a strong communicative impact on the local population. "I GRAFT ERGO SUM" did this through the graphic and photographic arts, as informal tools for learning, believing them to be instruments of a universal artistic language that gives thoughts an immediately decipherable and comprehensible image, breaking down linguistic and cultural barriers. Photography and graphics have been used to raise awareness of environmental issues and to promote interculturalism and the sharing of good environmental protection practices that everyone, in their own small way, can implement on a daily basis in order not to pollute.
