Objectives

The project “Free Urban Generati-ON” aims to promote, in different European contexts paths and experiences of urban regeneration led by young people. Particularly we want to develop a strategy of activities, initiatives, good practices, shared among different organizations at a European level, to reuse and give back to local communities abandoned buildings and areas. We want to work especially in suburbs and in social housing areas, which became dormitory towns or, even worse, areas of social marginalization and of crime. Participants, in international groups, will write the proposals that will enter the strategy. We want to promote among young people, involving youth with fewer opportunities from suburbs, the planning of alternative strategies aimed to regenerate places, that will be used in the areas they come from, especially in suburbs. With “urban regeneration” we mean processes to recover, with a social aim, abandoned places to make them spaces of aggregation and services for citizens. Public space, as a place of meeting and sharing is indeed in crisis, and often, especially in villages but also in towns, places of aggregation meeting the needs of citizens (especially young people), are missing. The lack of a common shared space make the experiences of active citizenship marginal, entrapped in the niches of cultural organizations. The project “Free Urban Generati-ON” promotes the philosophy of recovery and reuse of goods, fostering the respect of the environment and human relations, in particular in relation to values such as solidarity and sharing. Starting and test point of the strategy will be a building that the organization “Generazione Libera” (applicant of the project) recently got by the municipality of Caserta. It is a former kindergarten in an area of social housing in the hamlet of Tuoro. Inside this structure, participants will make some workshops and will organize a evening opened to the local community: during this evening they will experiment some activities, initiatives and good practices of the strategy. In line with the Treaty of Lisboa and with the objectives of the Erasmus+ program, the project aims to: - encourage active participation of young people to the democratic life, creating a more cohesive and incluse society; - promote the sense of belonging to a community; - promote the inclusion of less advantaged people; - create a network of European cooperation in the field of youth, promoting the shared strategy. The network could enlarge in the future. Lastly, on the basis of the objectives of Europe 2020 Strategy, we think that our work with young people with economic and social difficulties will have positive effects to contrast social exclusion. The specific objectives of the project Free Urban Generati-ON” are: - defining a strategy of activities and good practices to reuse abandoned spaces, shared by several European organizations; - bringing young people closer to the care and management of their areas; - involving young people with fewer opportunities in this process of definition of a strategy; - stimulating participation of youth in concrete activities fostering social development; - promoting the concepts and the practices of active citizenship and European citizenship among young people; - involving local populations in activities and projects for the reuse of abandoned goods; - involving local Institutions in shared project to improve urban areas; - enlarging the strategy to other European organizations, with the aim to create a bigger and bigger network.
