Objectives

Our consortium chose to implement this project mainly due to emerging needs of youth workers operating with young asylum-seekers, migrants and refugees in a fastly-changing context, which is the so-called "Western Balkans route". In fact, more and more asylum-seekers are staying in these countries rather than continue their journey to Europe, the main reason being the closed borders and the increasing hardship they face in trying to cross them, but also cultural similarities with their countries and the Balkans, opportunities to work or study, and many other individual reasons. This brings organizations working with them to question their approaches, based on the needs of a population in transit, and work to implement new activities and programmes aimed at supporting refugees in this new condition as well as local communities in learning about refugees staying in their towns or cities for a much longer time than before, meeting them and reducing fear and distress about their presence. The general objective of this project is to improve and contribute to social inclusion of young refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants and young people with a refugee background by increasing the competences (knowledge, attitudes and skills) of youth workers, youth leaders, staff and volunteers of youth NGOs and NGOs working with young people in reception centers for refugees and asylum-seekers along the Western Balkans route. Specific objectives are: - Supporting participants in learning and understanding facts and figures about the current situation in the participating countries as well as in the Western Balkans region as well as the interconnections between the same when it comes to migrations and forced migration flows -Exploring the role and potential of the presence of migrants, asylum-seekers and refugees in contributing to the development of the new hosting societies into more intercultural, tolerant and diverse communities - Supporting participants in assessing the changing needs of migrants and refugee young people and communities -Providing participants with competencies to design, implement and evaluate activities, programmes and projects based on NFE according to the emerging needs of young migrants, asylum-seekers and refugeesas well as local young people from the hosting communities -Encouraging and facilitating the implementation of inclusive activities and programmes based of the above-mentioned in the participating organizations.
