CitizenUp aims to involve 24 young people (and 6 group leaders) aged 18 to 26, from 6 countries (Italy, Spain, Croatia, Greece, Romania, Denmark) in an exchange activity during which participants can share their own experiences and acquire knowledge and skills that allow them to actively exercise rights and duties related to European citizenship and to become actors in a process of bringing citizens closer to Europe. In recent years a slow deterioration in the relationship between citizens and EU institutions has gradually emerged. Citizens have increasingly looked towards their national governments or local authorities for the protection of their rights. This has led to an ever greater closure and a sense of distrust of European institutions, seen as distant and has fueled centrifugal forces that are increasingly undermining the foundations on which the European Union was built. Against these dangers, young people are an important resource to support an integration process that promotes sustainable growth in Europe, based on the use of all resources and able to provide answers to real needs. In particular, the partner organizations have identified education as a tool to strengthen young people, allowing them to acquire knowledge, skills and tools to exercise European citizenship and to become promoters of a process that allows greater participation of all in the life of the Union , as a way to promote balanced growth. To achieve these goals, CitizenUp offers a 7-month journey, divided into three main phases: • Preparation phase: will take place between September and October 2019 • Implementation phase: during which the exchange activity to be held in Ciampino will be carried out from 11/11/2019 to 10/04/2019. • Follow-up phase assessment and reporting and reports: will be developed from November to March 2019. The young people involved will have different backgrounds and will have in common a strong motivation to understand and promote European citizenship. The non-formal education methodology will be the main methodology used. This methodology will make it possible to put the participant at the center of the learning process and to involve it in the formulation and evaluation of its own path. The expected impact will be both in the short, in the medium and in the long term: In the short term, the acquisition of skills and knowledge will have an impact on the participants who will look at Europe as a reality closer to them and will see the set of cultures present in it as a wealth based on common values. In the medium term, the knowledge, skills and tools acquired during the exchange will allow participants to become multipliers of the results achieved and this will allow them to involve more and more young people and make them aware of what Europe can do for them and what they can do for Europe. This objective will be helped by the creation and promotion of the board game created by young people for young people, which aims to bring Europe closer to reality through a simple but effective and appealing tool for participating children and their peers. The realization of the promotion campaign will also give participants the opportunity to experience themselves using all the tools known and experienced during the exchange. In the long term, through the relationships established during the exchange, the participants will be able to favor the development of contacts between their organizations. In this way, each NGO will be stronger and more capable of working to encourage young people to get closer to Europe and greater participation in society. In general, the project will benefit the individuals and associations involved but also the institutions and society as a whole, contributing to growth and consequently influencing equity, prosperity and promoting active participation and social inclusion in EU countries.
