GEA (Gender Equality Awareness) was written by 7 young students of the University of Trento hosted at the NEST Trento student residence willing to carry out a youth exchange concerning the topic of gender equality. The students attended a training course with InCo Association from February to April which led this youth exchange proposal. The youth exchange will take place in Trento from September 21st to 28th 2019 and it will involve 22 youngsters from three different countries: Italy, Republic of Moldova and Norway. The youth exchange will be preceded by an Advance Plan Visit (APV) which will be held in Trento on September 3rd and which will involve the three youth leaders of the three countries. The InCo facilitator will be present all the activities of the project. In the Trentino region, the topic of gender equality has became a controversial issue. With the changing of local government, the education courses on gender equality, which took place in the schools of the region, have been suspended. These educarion trainings were put in place to combat gender stereotypes, in the belief that from an early age people must learn to respect differences. These events produced a debate in the social media, that cought the attention of the 7 Italian students. They realize that they wanted to explore deeply the theme of gender equality, willing to create exchanging opportunities at local and international level. At local level they involved in this project proposal the Center for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies (CSG) of the 'University of Trento, the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Municipality of Trento. The Italian students wanted also to create an opportunity to discuss this topic at international level with young people from the Republic of Moldova and Norway. In fact, also at international level, the issue of gender equality is a priority, particularly in relation to the youth “world”. With the Council resolution of 11/26/18, 11 European objectives for young people were drawn up, including gender equality (objective 2). Specifically, the project aims to address the specific objectives of the European Union Strategy for Youth 2019-2027 (2018 / C 456/01): "achieving universal awareness of gender inequality and discrimination, particularly in the media" and " eliminate stereotypical gender roles and embrace the different gender identities in education systems, in family life, in the workplace and in other areas of life ". The general objective of GEA is to raise awareness among participants and the local and international community on the issue of gender equality. Participants will be involved in activities related to non-formal learning (group work, workshops, visits to the territory, the realization of a flashmob at the end of the exchange and the creation of a handbook). The general objective is based on the following specific objectives: 1. Informing and to raise awarness among participants on the issue of gender equality, in particular on the existence: - of gender stereotypes regarding the social roles of men / women - of discrimination in the job market 2. Raising awareness at local level on the issue of gender equality thanks to a flashmob organized in the center of Trento during the last day of exchange 3. Creation and online publication of a handbook that collects methodologies and activities used during the exchange, a tool that can be used by other organizations in order to conduct activities that sensitize the community on these issues 4. Encouraging discussion among young people from different backgrounds through a non-formal education experience, which will lead to the achieve new competences 5. Improving and promoting awareness of the EU objectives and values The project therefore pursues the following objectives of the Erasmus + program: supporting the personal growth and self-esteem of young people, promoting intercultural dialogue, promoting EU values, overcoming social obstacles, especially those related to gender discrimination.
