Objectives

Multiculturalism is the hallmark of our modern societies, especially if we want to develop sense of belonging to the common European values and EU citizenship we must learn from and about each other. Unfortunately, massive flows of migration during the past year have been raising many concerns in Europe as they tend to be connected with violent extremism without proof and evidence. The result is a bad public image that leads to fear, prejudice, xenophobia and discrimination towards migrants, all of which are against the values of EU and have a great impact in peace and prosperity of Europe. Mutual understanding is the first step of building a community where differences are accepted as a basic condition for the inclusion of many different categories of people, and it is fundamental to stimulate intercultural dialogue and active participation through the promotion of European values and human rights, focusing on the common things and looking at differences in cultures as something which can enrich everybody through the power of diversity. One of the best way to get into the essence of other cultures is through artistic expression, as art can be a very powerful tool to foster social inclusion, as it breaks any kind of stereotype and communication barrier among people, and it's a way to unleash our own passion and share with the others our feelings and emotions. For these reasons we decided to develop this project with such topics and methodology. The idea of the project came from our participation in previous international activities and from recently developed projects. These past successful experiences highlighted the value of these topics and the need of their continuation and improvement as it will be a chance for us, as youth in all our countries, to play an active role in the change making process. Therefore, based on common interests, areas of work, and needs of their respective communities we agreed to work together on the development of a new project proposal; in particular, considering the success of both events, it was a common decision to try to develop a youth exchange that could merge these two topics. Based on these considerations, we decided to focus on the topic of migration and promote it through art. The main criticalities that we want to tackle are: -misinformation and lack of awareness regarding the reasons and intentions of migration -mistreatment, discrimination and intolerance that migrants and refugees face in several situations - social exclusion and general idea that migrants and refugees are only a burden to their hosting countries Therefore, the main objectives of the project are: - To raise young people's awareness and understanding on migration crisis in Europe, explaining it from different perspectives -To foster active participation and develop a sense of European belonging and common values -To develop positive attitudes towards arts and its expressions, encouraging sense of initiative, critical thinking and creativity -To promote diversity, intercultural dialogue and learning, thus promoting social inclusion -Discover different non-formal and artistic approaches of education to support young people to make a change in their local contexts -To promote Erasmus+ programme, YouthPass certificate and further cooperation in the field of Youth
