Objectives

As proven by the University College London through the first ever neuroimaging study on a radicalised population: ”extreme behaviours seem to intensify after social exclusion.” (The Guardian). Statistics related to the 2017, show that within the young Europeans aged 16-29: A) the 28% is at risk of poverty or social exclusion (corresponding to 21.8 millions), B) over the 80% attend at least one cultural activity per year, mostly live performances: concerts, exhibitions etc. (Eurostat) While the former figure indicates the potential scale of youth Extremism and Radicalisation in Europe, the latter suggests that the magnetic power of culture can be used to approach the most vulnerable youth and: A) obtain informations on their social background, B) assess the consonance of their profile to the spectrum of Extremism and Radicalisation, C) guide them towards alternatives aptitudes and facilitate their rehabilitation/reintegration, through tailor-made harmless forms of expression. Theatre is one of the most flexible tools in cultural expression and non formal education. Enabling youth workers to use make an effective use of it, can limit the growth of socially inactive young people and NEETS within the communities, cutting the resources to extremist groups and parties. Objective of this project is to equip participants with the competences ,to use Theatre, as a tool to limit the inactivity and polarisation of young people at risk of social exclusion.
