Objectives

The environmental and climate situation over the years has become increasingly worse. In many European countries, but not only, there are more and more climate dysfunctions including excessive temperature rise, sea level rise, lack of rainfall, and fires in drier areas. Young people's engagement in environmental protection is evolving, and with easy access to media and information sources, they are aware of the reality of the climate emergency. Despite growing activism, it remains a major difficulty to radically change their habits to acquire a more sustainable lifestyle. Formal educational environments often provide an approach to awareness raising, carried out by teachers and educators, that is catastrophic and tends to shift the responsibility to the last generation. At the same time, the educational activities offered on this issue are often theoretical activities that present a more hasty and unlabored method thus making learning boring, monotonous and ineffective. The rigidity of the predefined school curriculum leads to the ineffectiveness of educational programs on the subject, and the negativity with which young people face this problem does not contribute to drawing solutions. With this Youth Exchange the participants and partner associations approached the issue of climate change and sustainability from a real and practical point of view, through the methodologies of Non Formal Education they increased their capacity and achieved greater effectiveness in understanding and communicating these issues, as well as having a clearer idea of what it means to have a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. Participants had the opportunity to learn about realities and people committed to fighting climate change and protecting the environment, visited good practices, and created a toolkit containing practical advice on how to make their lifestyle more sustainable. The objectives achieved are as follows: - Raised awareness about data and consequences of climate change; - Facilitated the exchange of experiences and perspectives regarding the issue addressed among participants and partner associations; - Developed participants' skills such as team building, sense of initiative and self-confidence; - Discovered more about Erasmus+ opportunities, to participate but also to create and implement projects in their local communities - Implemented visits, meetings and hands-on activities that enhanced participants' skills; - Created a toolkit containing practical tips for more sustainable daily living.
