Objectives

In recent years in Europe, in the context of the refugee crisis, there has been a sharp increase in extremist right-wing movements and parties, political populism, violence, an increase in hate speech and racist crime, propaganda by media and politics, fakenews, increase in cases of discrimination: all this directly affects European values and the future of Europe. Young people are too vulnerable in this environment and can be easily manipulated by any extremist group that promotes violence, hatred and intolerance. In this climate of lack of solidarity and intolerance towards refugees and migrants, the chances of successful integration of refugees are reduced, which represents a threat to security in the EU. The "Story telling 4 peace" project responds directly to these problems, through its activities, objectives and results. The young people with whom all the partners involved in this project work often have little awareness and capacity for media literacy, are easily deceived by propaganda, lack critical thinking and are not aware of the implications of the use of hatred. During the exchange, young people will have the opportunity to discuss key concepts such as freedom, justice, equality, human dignity, non-discrimination, democracy, tolerance, European values, rights, responsibilities, media and false news, incitement to hatred, crimes of hatred, extremism, violence, peace and solidarity. Furthermore, the project is necessary for another very important reason: sometimes when young people are driven by the desire to fight hatred, in reality they respond with hatred and thus it becomes a vicious circle. This is why we believe that young people should learn rather peaceful ways to fight hatred rather than feed it. The main objectives of the "Story telling 4 peace" project: - help young people understand the issue of hate speech and hate crimes, to realize the possible consequences for communities and Europe in general; - promote positive attitudes, acceptance and understanding towards refugees and migrants; - informing participants on ways to fight hate speech in a peaceful manner and provide avenues and channels for hate reporting online; - promote media literacy, analytical and critical thinking; - promote the "No Hate Speech Movement" of the Council of Europe; - to present art and, in particular, graffiti and story telling as effective and peaceful ways to combat hate speech; - stimulate active citizenship and commitment of young people by encouraging them to be active in the field of human rights protection; - promote tolerance, mutual understanding and dialogue between young people of different nationalities. We believe that the project will offer young people a new vision of Europe's urgent issues in an interactive, accessible and inclusive way, will provide a platform for learning, the exchange of experiences and the power of art. Graffiti and storytelling are interesting and engaging for young people, stimulating their creativity and active participation. The exchange will show young people who have an active role in the fight against incitement to hatred, how important it is not to be passive, which can involve their peers, they can also be ambassadors of the No Hate.
