Objectives

The project "Fantastic Creatures in EqualityLand" was concieved as a meeting point where the traditional culture, books, legends, myths, beliefs have strengthened intercultural and intergenerational dialogue, promoted equality between men and women, social cohesion and the feeling of an active European citizenship. Our ship has embarked on a wonderful European journey where barriers (discrimination based on sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion etc) were broken down. In 1945, the UN Charter and the subsequent UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNHR) (1948), reaffirmed the universality of human rights on the basis of equality. More recently, the UN established a common platform containing core objectives to be achieved by the year 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Among the 17 commitments, “promoting gender equality and empowering women” featured prominently on the list. We were guided with this idea and wanted to approach this issue from the standing point of our traditions seeing that in Sardinia the role of women has always been very present and relevant, especially in traditions and legends. Therefore we carried out this project with general aim to contribute to the better position of women in European society as well as to increase awareness on gender and human rights issues among young people. During the project fairy tales were used as patterns for focusing on identifying and tackling gender stereotypes and reducing gender-based violence. The objectives of this project were: - to reveal gender stereotypes in national and international fairy tales and legends among young people, - to use gender stereotypes in fairy tales as a start point for reconstruction into new fairy tale as a tools for education of young people in the field of gender equality and human rights, - to enchance capacity of youth, mostly with fewer opportunities, to understand and formulate problems in gender reading, - to construct new fairy tales that are in line with European values related to gender equality, - to promote a more flexible attitude towards cultural diversity in society, - to promote a new form of intercultural dialogue in broader European context fostering cooperation and socializing among young people, - to promote Erasmus+ program as a possibility to promote gender equality and human rights issues among young people Europe wide.
