Objectives

Youth exchange project “Baltic Way 30” aims to raise awareness among young people about the processes of democracy and independence in Europe, specifically – the dawn of Baltic States independence restoration, using sailing as the method for team work and inclusion, as well as strong empowerment and personal development tool. Baltic Sea is the connecting element of Baltic States, which had and still has huge impact in geopolitical arena. Therefore we aim to echo historical event - Baltic Way - in this symbolic sea way, travelling from harbor to harbor at Latvian coast and meeting local young people to discuss, celebrate and raise awareness about historical events of Baltic countries in XX century. With this project, our main goal is to increase participation of young people in democratic and civic processes of their local, national and international (European) communities. We seek to empower them to take initiatives and to be active citizens: from participating in political elections, to joining organizations, volunteering and forming their environment. Additionally, we aim for the following objectives: to strengthen liefelong learning competences of the participants; to increase critical thinking skills of young people; to strengthen cultural self-esteem; to learn genuine team work and inclusive leadership; to bring attention to the Baltic Sea and its role in geopolitical events in Europe.
