Objectives

A group of young people from Romania, Spain and Luxembourg met during the project 'Fairies still exist, a storytelling time-machine' and came up with an idea to organize a follow-up activity that will revive traditional fairytales. The follow-up project was entitled 'The power of fairytales'. Fairytales contain important cultural heritage passed from generation to generation that is currently on the edge of extinction, which is why these young people took the challenge to upgrade the national fairytales and classics to match the current situation in Europe. The fairytale is a classic example of cultural heritage directly related to the country or region where it originates from. Therefore, to truly understand the concept of a fairytale, it is important to understand the cultural background of the country where the fairytale was created. The participants will create their own fairytale from scratch that will present reality in Europe viewed through the eyes of young Europeans. The created fairytale will address important European issues through its story. The project will include non-formal based workshops and activities through which the participants will discover the potential of their own body and improve their public speaking skills. The activities will raise awareness within participants on the culture and heritage contained and preserved within fairytales for many years already. The participants will learn to work with camera, record and edit videos which will improve their digital skills. The workshops will include a lot of acting and performing that will build the self-confidence of participants and advance their social and civic skills. Discussions and analyzing the structure of fairytales will help the participants to adopt and improve critical thinking. The participants will upgrade national fairytales and the famous classics, rehearse, perform and record their performances. The cultural heritage contained in the fairytales will be revealed and the participants will incorporate their personal stories into the play. In this way, the participants will become aware of how important it is to preserve and understand more on their culture and origins. Current important European issues will be incorporated into the stories as well. This youth exchange will help participants (re)discover the European cultural heritage and understand their own culture better. We expect that this project will encourage young participants to be more tolerant and open-minded active European citizens. During all the activities, the participants will improve the following competences: - raise awareness on other cultures - learn about similarities and differences between cultures - self-expression and body language - hand-crafting skills - work in an international group - creative writing - critical thinking - sense of entrepreneurship - propose ideas and take the lead within a group
