Objectives

Disinformation, fake and biased is one of the striking issues in our society having negative impacts not only on the democratic process but also on the cohesion and tolerance in the society. Media can be great sources of information if consumed with an open mind, critical attitude and curiosity. Control over media disinformation and improving media literacy are one of the goals of both the EU and its member states. This project aims to contribute to these efforts by focusing on the side of the end-user in particularly youth. Working with young people who usually already have the technical skills from media literacy, we are aiming to enhance their critical thinking and communication while consuming and sharing media content. We believe that this is a universal skill that every member of society needs to actively participate in civil society and the democratic process. This skills are also very much transferable and appreciated by the majority of the employers. We aim to use interesting and innovative ways and methods to let the participants reflect on the realities of the media and to learn from each other. This project will gather a group of 30 young people to provide them with detailed information regarding media and their driving forces. They will gain practical experience through simulations, discussions in the multicultural groups but also with experts and practitioners. Through a variety of non-formal education methods including reflection, discussion and group-work, the participants will in the later part of the youth exchange start working on producing the materials for dissemination. The participants then will be provided with tools and resources to spread their knowledge. This group of 30 young people with their expertise, network and enthusiasm will multiply the impacts of this project through spreading their knowledge and curiosity amongst their peers not only in Luxembourg but also in their countries of origin. This will be done through sharing of the dissemination products - a poster and a leaflet. Furthermore, they will collect all the materials including the media analysis and presentations that were done during the project. All these materials will be posted on a public facebook group. This project will not only teach the participants about media but also encourage them to be active members of the society and of the decision making processes in their countries. We will give them a voice to be part of the democratic process and to impact public awareness and knowledge. They will be also introduced to the vast range of opportunities that Erasmus + Programme offers and encouraged to explore their options for the future.
