School education does provide academic knowledge, but little understanding for socio-economic, demographic, cultural, environmental and technological challenges and for developing vital key skills for a career in the Hotel & Tourism sector generating approx. 12% of all jobs and bearing a lot of employment opportunities for young people, able to adapt to a multicultural pluralistic environment. To address this gap, the "" Sharing Christmas cultural diversity with Europe's Youth in Barcelona" project, an intercultural non-formal & informal learning project, will bring together in December 2019 in Barcelona 60 youngsters and 30 educators from all over Europe, 15 different nationalities (AM, HR, EE, ES, FR, IT, LT, LU, NL, PL, PT, RO, RU, SE, and UA) to celebrate the rich variety of traditions & practices relating to year-end festivities in the areas of food, costumes, legends , folklore, and music. It intends, via interactions with foreign peers, to build up important intercultural, social, linguistic, vocational competences as well as vital transversal/key skills (as learning-to-learn, communication, creativity, sense of initiative/responsibilities, entrepreneurship) essential for youngsters’ employability. By creating empathy amongst the group, youngsters will change their stereotypic viewpoints over culture, train tolerance through understanding of differences, overcome prejudices, discrimination & racism and raise their awareness of the impact of sociocultural backgrounds on behaviors, notably in their future profession.Their future responsibilities in the field of sustainable development, preservation of EU cultural heritage and active citizenship will also be addressed. The objectives: - giving youngsters an opportunity for informal/non-formal learning experiences by designing, handling and carrying out themselves according to their needs & aspirations all activities of a project with an intercultural dimension - providing for personal development, competences building and learning experiences in an foreign environment by bringing youngsters from different European countries and sociocultural backgrounds together under a common theme; - Allowing a cultural exchange, setting up and doing common activities by overcoming language barriers and differences in customs, behavior and thinking; - Fostering the mobility among youngsters and thus increasing their employability and their sens of belonging to a EU community & the rights that offer an EU citizenship; - Promoting common EU values and working together against exclusion, racism and xenophobia; - Promoting the inclusion of youngsters with fewer opportunities (on the participants and visitors levels).
