The main purpose for participants to implement this is to challenge themselves and to improve their competences. The idea is to cycle from Olaine to Liepāja (Latvia) and to discuss reducing waste and other related topics. The learning needs expressed by participants are structured in two aims: 1. To develop participants’ personal competencies and organisational skills. 1.1. The challenge to implement this project will help participants improve their social and civic competence (being responsible for each other, taking initiative, participating in different levels of the project etc.), 1.2. It will develop our self-confidence, 1.3. Physical activities improve mental health and wellbeing, 1.3. Leadership skills - to involve others, to be responsible for a specific task etc. There are different leaders for various tasks during the project, 1.4. Participants will learn more about organising events, this will help us plan and implement other activities in future, both personal and public, 1.5. Improving communication skills in official circumstances and writing a project. It has been already tried out during the application (calling different state institutions, organisations) and will be continued, 1.6. Using another language, experiencing the landscape and weather of another country, discussing issues with people from other countries. Participants will explore social norms, cultural traits, current systems and challenges of countries. The specifics of this project will enhance this intercultural and interpersonal sharing, 1.7. Some participants also want to improve their spatial orientation skills. The inability to understand directions is a challenge for some of us and it influences confidence, so the specifics of this project can benefit us. 2. To learn about reducing waste and to spread the message about it. 2.1. We want to learn more about this topic from each other and to have a safe space to share our doubts and struggles, 2.2. Other concepts such as minimalism go hand in hand with reducing waste. The mindset can be brought to other parts of our daily lives. We will think about being less dependent on our belongings, 2.3. We will organise public activities on the issue, thus learning how to organise events, how to build arguments. Also local communities will benefit from it, 2.4. Improving confidence, argumentation, presentation skills we will spread the message of Erasmus+, non-formal learning, the opportunities for other young people (done in person and through social media). 2.5. other organisations will be able to learn from our experience from a video (the aim - to show different practical tips and inspiration) and from a graphic material. Another motivation to implement this project is to promote youth exchange as a tool also for "older youth" (two of the leaders and the current participants are 20-27 y.o.). We also want to increase the quality of youth exchanges emphasizing the involvement of all participants and having it created by all partners in close cooperation. We have put an effort to involve everyone already in the application process, to make sure everyone finds their place, has the ability to express themselves and to learn. We hope that our project will be an inspiration for partner organisations to continue working on an international level, learning from each other and involving youth. We also believe that other organisations and young people could get inspired from this project, done together in close cooperation of all participants. Participants have expressed learning needs during the application process through e-mail, meetings on Zoom, in person. There will be additional learning needs and aims defined by participants in the beginning of the project and on the exchange. Learning needs expressed by participants coincide with the objectives of the programme such as “improving the level of key competences and skills of young people, including those with fewer opportunities”. Life-long learning competences - social and civic competence, learning to learn and sense of initiative will be more in focus in this project. It also coincides the priorities for 2019, we believe that our project will most importantly improve the sense of initiative in young people as we aim to help to improve the confidence, an essential part to come up with an initiative and to take part in democratic processes. It will also add to the objective to increase critical thinking of youth and media literacy (the topic of less waste is widely described in media, critical thinking is essential to prepare. Project discusses the current situation and its flaws requiring analytical approach).
