The Project Connectiing through Culture included a mix of 25 youths and 5 leaders from 5 European countries Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovenia and Lithuania, gathering together for this youth mobility. The main target of such project was cultures and traditions through informal traditions. Our project objectives were -Promoting our own countries' culture and traditions -Promoting appreciation for different cultures (intercultural appreciation) -Learning from each other about traditions and culture in an informal setting By implementing the project among five different countries we were able to be exposed to traditions from five different countries, through first-hand presentation of cultural elements such as music, dancing, customs, languages, etc. as well as discussions among participants. Discussions enabled all youth participants to bring forward their knowledge and share it with the other participants, discussed elements of cultural appreciation and promotion, how traditions must survive by being passed on from one generation to the next, and how youths are therefore pivotal in promoting the passing on of traditions. Upon forming up the project consortium we wanted to make sure to have a diverse mix of countries and potential partners with experience on different projects, thus leading to maximise the project objective to promote cultural heritage and giving the youth participants ownership and getting them to meet and know other youths and learn about different cultures. When it comes to Project Partners Organisations the Lithuanian partner has a vast experience in cultural events, sustainable tourism and works with 8 different Municipalities, the Polish organisation working with youths in personal and creative development, the Romanian organisation having a vast experience in EU Projects and working directly with youths supporting formal, non-formal and informal education of children, youth and adult people in order to acquire the necessary skills and personal development skills for future employment and active citizenship, including promoting of human rights, cultural diversity, equal opportunities and non-discrimination and the Slovenian organisation working in the field of personal and professional development of young people, development of non-formal education and learning methodology, and a platform for practicing digital media literacy, social economy and creative expression. Thus we strongly believed that this is a good mix of partner which will bring an added value to the project. Youth participants from all participating countries have been involved at each stage of the preparation of the project, especially drafting the programme of activities and providing input on the learning outcomes they would like from this project and the activities they would like to participate in to reach them. Participating youths assisted youth leaders in shaping the project idea and programme of activities in more detail, therefore the activities are age appropriate and of interest to those participating. This resulted in reaching the project objectives: -Promoting our own countries' culture and traditions -Promoting appreciation for different cultures (intercultural appreciation) -Learning from each other about traditions and culture in an informal setting When it came to project theme and application and programme planning we wanted to promote cultural learning throughout the project, as well as creativity and appreciation for local arts and crafts through the craft workshop, showcasing the beauty of traditional crafts and the importance of safeguarding them. We learnt how knowledge about how these are made is passed down from generation to generation, and what sets them apart from crafts made in other countries. Youths came up with the idea of focusing on EU initiatives promoting cultural heritage as a way to get to know other youths and learn from each other through culture, cuisine and traditions. Youths wanted an opportunity whereby they will have the opportunity to promote our localities and our countries, traditional food, traditional crafts and other traditional aspects. This truly served as having youths acting as a bridge between cultures and serving as key agents in promoting peace and intercultural understanding, as highlighted in the UN's document 'Culture and Youth Development'. Having a fear amongst European Citizens on Migration, our project planned to to promote the idea of intercultural learning and appreciation, that through cooperation and respect for other cultures we can benefit from new perspectives; understanding others' point of view. This includes being better able to live in harmony in multicultural societies. Through the project learning processes, we obtained various results towards skills and competences: -Acknowledging cultural diversity as something positive -Learning tolerance and mutual understanding -Stimulate young people’s participation in different kinds of youth events and initiatives -Stimulate partnership between participants and establish an effective partnership network -Open our minds, learn to be more creative, improve our social skills -Learning basic words from each others' languages -Appreciating the linguistic diversity in Europe -Understanding the basic values of the EU motto 'United in Diversity" -Learning about EU initiatives promoting cultural diversity, such as the European Capital of Culture, the European Year for Cultural Heritage, etc. This gave a hands on experience to our youths by working together during the planning and implementation phases. It gave them a good insight to learn from each other on organisation of projects, managing logistics and addressing any issues which come up during projects. During the project activities participants exchanged best practices and gained ideas from each others' regular events and activities organised. By implementing this project participants exchanged the values of Culture which can give people a connection to certain social values, beliefs, religions and customs. It allowed them to identify with others of similar mindsets and backgrounds. Cultural heritage can provide an automatic sense of unity and belonging within a group and allows us to better understand previous generations and the history of where we come from. Through sharing different experiences we managed to come up with different understandings and benefits of cultural heritage including: preserving cultural heritage as a whole is the communal support, Understanding our cultural heritage can give a sense of personal identity, Cultural heritage is in the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the religions and traditions we follow, and the skills we learn. Sometimes we can touch and see what makes up a culture; other times it is intangible
