Objectives

The project revolved about the need to increase rural areas and aims to give young persons living in these detached areas, the opportunity to develop and promote their town or village of birth. In fact, the project saw the blending of a contemporary theoretical material and soft skill methodologies with an insight on rural tourism and inclusion of people from rural communities, so as to provide opportunities to consequently operate as the main promoter in inspiring young people to apply rural tourism strategies. Consolidating this aim, the main theme of the project, was to raise European awareness of the realities and possibilities for more inclusive societies towards people coming from disadvantaged areas (such as rural areas), and providing youth workers with tools to work on it and giving them the space to share best practices in the field. The project, through its seminar, aimed at developing and sharing innovative models of social entrepreneurship for facilitating the increase of sustainable tourism in rural areas, by fostering a community involvement and underlining methods and techniques to raise the level of awareness in European countries towards a more inclusive society. Specific objectives of the seminar derived from the specialized activities planned in the agenda and carried out during the run of the project: • To share and exchange best practices, tools, ideas and challenges among youth workers to promote active inclusion and engagement of people from rural communities; • To improve social entrepreneurship knowledge, skills and attitudes for the sustainable development of rural communities; • To exploit and capitalize tourism as development economic opportunity supporting the creation, the administration and the promotion of rural tourism initiative; • To create a set of guidelines which contains instruments, ideas and tools for local heritage promotion and local rural tourism product development; • To foster cohesion, networking and participation through of new partnership at different levels. Key topics tacked in the main activity: 1. Nowadays, rural tourism contains the natural and cultural heritage, natural attractions, traditions, and customs as a sustainable development activity. However it has been counting as a reliable income source for the economy of many countries. Since rural tourism is one of the most competitive industries, it is necessary to find new approaches for the active engagement of communities located in these rural/peripheral and/or disadvantaged areas. We ran through the project keeping in mind how we need to stimulate the development of skills and competences connected to entrepreneurial activities for the recovery of rural tourism potential and regional traditions, increasing living standards in line with identified needs and priorities of local communities. 2. Social entrepreneurship was an important tool for rural revitalization and inclusion of people coming from peripheral areas and was one of the best examples/structures we turned to during the run of the project. While peripheral rural areas face significant challenges in terms of sustaining communities and attracting tourists, it is often social entrepreneurs, who are involved in developing new ideas, innovation and activities, as well as envisioning a future for specific areas. 3. Finally we aimed to achieve inclusion and how it benefits rural communities, if this can be achieved while preserving their environmental and cultural assets. Economic development is achieved by creating additional income and employment, while inclusion and development can also improve the social wellbeing in rural areas. Starting from these considerations, we built and executed a project based on the idea of involvement of rural areas and their residents, especially those who are under 35 years old, and are active in the field of youth work. “CSL: Creating, Sharing and Living Rural Tourism Experience” promoted innovative skills in terms of entrepreneurship, management, ICT, marketing, sustainability in tourism and engagement of communities on an individual level supporting disadvantaged young people from rural communities in their personal development thereby supporting them in the potential for finding employment. By implementing this project we have managed to increase the awareness of some of the rural cultures of 9 different European nations and we have broadened the horizons of young people who are connected within the large network we belong to and who are often living in isolated areas in rural Europe.
