During our previous training course, our members have received added skills and knowledge about inter-cultural dialogue and discrimination and this has greatly helped us in the work we carry out with the young people. However, we have come to realize that this is not enough. During various JCI meetings and following our Step Up campaign we identified two needs that we need to work on. The first need which was identified was the importance for our youth leaders/workers to receive training on good quality coaching and secondly to reach more to young people who are at risk of being marginalized. These two objectives complement each other since having good coaching work in the organization will also mean a more inclusive approach to youth work methods being implemented. This also indeed ties in with the ‘Step Up for Europe – Make it Count’ campaign aiming for positive change and hence also why we have decided to call this project ‘Make it Count: Coaching for Inclusion’ During our informal discussions between the different JCIs, despite having the same ethos, it transpired that there was a high degree of variation between the definition of a coach from one country to another and this was affecting the quality of the learning outcomes which emerged from different projects. It was felt that there was a disparity between organizations when it came to defining the meaning of coaching and participation. Therefore, the partners decided that the definition and quality of coaching was an area that needed to be worked upon to increase the overall quality of youth work and thus the quality of the projects implemented. An increase in quality youth work would also mean that young people will also be better coached in acquiring better skills. This training will focus on coaching skills and tools which will be given to youth leader / workers so they can increase the coaching element within their organization on a local and European level. The main objectives of Inclusive Coaching Training Course is to equip the participants with the necessary coaching skills to be able to facilitate projects which include young people who are at risk of being marginalized due to their cultural, social or ethnicity background. Through better coaching skills the participants will be in a better position to focus on the group dynamics and to assist young people to really get to know each other whilst working on a project. Apart from the coaching tools, the participants will also learn that young people undergo different phases in their adolescent years, which require different tools and methods to engage young people. Through coaching the participants will also learn how to assist group to integrate together and how to process that interaction and turn it into a learning outcome. The participants will also learn more about the 7 types of inclusion and how can different coaching methods create an environment in which the young people will see the person as individuals and not judge according to the social, cultural or ethnic background. The participants will also acquire essential coaching skills to empower young people from idea generation to the evaluation stage of a project. This will create projects which are made by young people for young people within the communities which the partner organizations are coming from.
