This project is a continuation of the 2019 Erasmus+ Exchange: Looking for Sustainable Horizons. Meeting the expectations and needs of the participants and the planet in 2019 we have added a sustainability theme to the project. In the process we’ve gained new, valuable partners, and have broadened our own horizons. The 2020 Exchange will take place on a Tall Ship Morgenster. Young people from 5 countries will sail the large ship together, visiting interesting ports as well as sailing the North Sea. The main components to this project are international exchange, sail training and sustainability. The young people will live and work together on a ship, spending all of their time in a limited space with their peers from different countries. Not only will they learn about them from presentations and such, they will also live the international experience, discovering for themselves how similar they are in some aspects, and how their differences help them to achieve the common goal. Self-development is another part of this equation. As a group the participants will set up the plan to follow the Exchange program and learn to work in a team to realize it. As individuals, they will set their own goals, reflect on their own progress and improve from possible mistakes. Thanks to learning theory and living practice, the participants will gain deeper understanding of sustainability issues, especially the dangers of plastic pollution in the oceans. More importantly, after understanding the gravity of the problem, they will find simple and more complicated solutions to some of these issues. We’ve always tried to make Sail Training available to as many people as possible. This year we will invite participants from financially-disadvantaged backgrounds to join an online fundraising training and coaching program, where they will be able to gather the money for the project while learning many valuable new skills. As partners our organisations are aiming to learn how to work with the sustainability-related projects. Unfortunately it seems like the need for them will be growing stronger every year. We still want to develop some areas of our project management, while at the same time learning to work with outside partners and learning from their expertise. Finally we will work to educate the broader public who will come to touch with our Exchange participants. One of the objectives is to spread the knowledge about the Erasmus+ program and the possibilities it offers. We will mobilize the local people to join our cleanup actions (e.g. a beach cleanup) and invite them to see the Morgenster and learn about the values of Sail Training, Sustainability and Erasmus +.
