Objectives

Peacemakers' Global Week is an annual event which has been organised and implemented by KFUK-KFUM Global since 1988. Through this event Y Global aims to further empower young youth workers in the field of advocacy in general, and in issues relating to movement building, wealth inequality, human rights, peacemaking and environmental awareness in particular, in compliance with our main thematic areas. 50 young youth workers from Norway, Romania, Sweden, Finland, Russia Malta, Czech Republic, Spain, Macedonia, Greece and Portugal will take part in activities at Rønningen Folkehøgskole, Oslo where they will have seminars, workshops and team-building activities. Through this mobility Y Global wants to make sure that the youth workers attending will be able to reach their full potential. They may have the motivation, but they may not have the knowledge and tools to follow through on their goals. This training is aimed at resolving that. The overarching issues that we will address is youth involvement and youth power, and the main need that we will try to satisfy is the need of youth workers to manage to mobilise youth effectively. Peacemaker is a tool and an informal movement within the YMCA and YWCA networks aiming to give more power to young people. We believe that young people have the capacity to be active citizens implementing policy empowerment of other young people with the aim of engaging in policy advocacy. Hence, by addressing policy gaps in areas where young people experience injustice in our society, we are able to mobilise youth workers and young people in a non-violent change process aimed at creating justice for young people. We believe that this is the best way to reduce extremism and build peace in our communities and to make the youth a part of the policy creation. Youth, Peace and Security is the main theme for the leadership training Peacemakers' Global Week.
